HEY guys JUST a helpful reminder to get all the remote and video PORTS to work.Even if you open the ports on your router they will still show blocked,What you have to do is go to server tab or mobile tab in GEOVISION and check the box that opens the port. This drove me crazy because when you go to canyouseeme.org it says BLOCKED until the box is checked.I Promise you this is 99.9999% of everyones problem...also you can go to virtual server if you are having port conflicts with your router uncheck the port option and then go to your regular router ports and make sure they arent the same....

A customer recently contacted CCTV Camera Pros and asked if the Geovision Center V2 software is able to receive the POS text overlay from a Geovision DVR that has a GV-Data Capture device connected to it that captures the point of sale data from a cash register.

Unfortunately, the Geovision center V2 software is mainly designed to receive alarm signals from multiple Geovision DVRs / locations so it does not display the point of sale data, however it can capture any alarms that are programmed and triggered as the result of a point of sale event as well as capture alarm signals for any of the following additional scenarios:

Disk Full

Restarted Failed

Multicam Closed

Hard Drive Full

Multicam Surveillance System has been closed

An unexpected error occurred in Multicam

Surveillance System. (Error Code: 1 or 2)

Motion Detection

Object Missing Detection

Unattended Object

Alert Message of POS

Scene Change

A large customer of CCTV Camera Pros is planning a large surveillance system consisting of 64 IP cameras. The customer will be using Geovision and had questions in regards to the analytics built into the GV-Recording server. They were unsure of the GV-NVR or GV-Recording Server software would be better for their requirements which included using analytic features such a object detection and missing object. Here is some information that we obtained from Geovision.

Are the same analytics built into the GV-Recording server as the GV-System or does he have to run an instance of the GV-System also?
The current version of GeoVision Recording server can only support motion detection with GeoVision IP cameras.
No other video analytic feature is available on GV Recording server at the moment.

If the customer needs to run GV-System (NVR) for more advanced analytics, would this run on a separate physical hardware from the GV-Recording server?
Yes, a separate physical hardware is required to run GV-NVR.

Please explain in detail how to record 64 IP cameras. Maybe he is better off with (2) 32 channel instances of the GV-system? What is recommended?
This is actaully a choice for the customer. TheGV Recording Server is not a successor for GV-NVR to totally replace GV-NVR, instead, they are suppose to complement each other.
If you do not need video analytic features on all 64 cameras, you have the following options.

Two GV-NVR PCs : The main advantage is the free software and ability to have all video analytics on all features.

One Recording Server with one NVR : You can record all the IP cameras on GV-Recording server, distrubite the video streaming from GV-Recoridng server to GV-NVR for video analytics.
In this way, you can take the advantage of both GV recording server and GV NVR. For example, central management for IP cameras, run GV Recording server as a windows service, network bandwidth monitor and etc.
You can also do recording on GV-NVR, so you will have a copy of the video as a backup in GV-NVR.

It really depends on how you plan to implment the system and the required features.

Tested on a GeoVision NVR with 8.4 and 8.5 software. Setup for 1 camera per 3 second scan but it will not show up in 'fullscreen' mode. It has a little window showing the camera and a black border around it. It initially would go to fullscreen mode when I hit camera scan so I know it's possible I just don't know what setting or what I'm missing. Tried restarting, reinstalling and upgrading to 8.5 from 8.5 with the same results. Anyone?

Hi guys, first post here. I'm actually a complete noob with these security camera setups. I do computer repair for a guy that owns a gas station and he asked me if I could help him get his cameras back online, as his camera guy was out of town for 2 weeks.

It was easy even being a noob and reading for a couple minutes. He said att just replaced his router so I figured I just needed to forward the ports and it worked fine.

At this point, everything was working perfectly. He has his credit card machines and lotto(I think)wired to the router on the same connection and everything was working fine.

He called me a few days later and said they had to give him another router/modem for some reason. I didn't even ask... I forwarded the ports again, tested, and took off.

Got a call today and he said that his credit card machines and stuff wouldn't work with his server plugged into the router even right after I left. Got there and was checking with speedtest.net.

Without the webcam server running, I was getting about 16ms ping, 9mb down, and .5mb up. Turned on the webcam server and was getting about 870-900ms ping, 200k down, and didn't even work for upload speed lol. Needless to say, with that ping the credit card machines wouldn't work at all. They'd just lag out. This was 'without' him even actually connecting to the server remotely via his iphone or home desktop. I did test maybe once or twice and got a good connection but then I'd test again right after and it would lag really bad. I also tried it with and without the bandwith control server and stopped all the services other than the webcam server to no avail.

I believe he has around 6-7 cameras(max)and no changes have been made to quality settings. Was also working fine with the other router so I tried to tell him it was probably the router itself. What do you guys think? Should I try the lowest quality settings? Should it be sucking up that much bandwith just on its own without anyone even watching the camera remotely?

Sorry for all the questions and the novel here. I'm seriously just a noob and trying to give you as much detail as possible. Have no clue what would help really and what wouldn't. Thanks for reading all this and helping me out.

Best regards,

Mark

Is their a means of remotely starting the scan for a PTZ camera with DMMultiview. While the camera is scanning I can access the menu and navigate using the up and down arrows. However, once I back out the scan stops and I cannot reenter the menu. It seems the only time I can enter the menu is while the camera is actually scanning.

Hello,

GeoVision has released a new version 8.5 of GV-DVR/NVR and CMS. This new version 8.5 also supports Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit as in previous versions. The GV-NVR version 8.5 supports Intel Sandy Bridge GPU and enhances HD video decoding, along with the new features as below.

The fisheye object tracking function enables blind-spot-free tracking to get a closer view of moving objects.

The wide angle lens de-warping function provides non-distortion video for normal wide angle lenses, and thus saves the cost from adopting expansive non-distortion wide angle lens.

The face mosaic function blurs the faces when a video is played back for privacy concern.

The intrusion function is added with depth setting so that any object in different distance can be identified accordingly.

The newly-added option of ignore-environment-change is used to decrease environmental motion alarms such as rain, snow, waves, or the moving leaves in the trees.

With its multi-screen function, the version 8.5 CMS application can support up to 16 monitors which enable video wall solutions for control rooms displays.

GeoVision has also released a PCI-E interfaced video capture card GV-900A. The GV-900A is the first GeoVision video capture card that supports a maximum of 32 channels video recording in a single card. It features a total of 240fps at D1 resolution when running on 8 video channels.

Another eye-catching NVR solution from GeoVision is the GV-Recording Server for 128 channels of IP video recording. The GV-Recording Server, which supports ONVIF, PSIA and RTSP protocols, is designed for large-scale installations or multi-site deployments.

A customer contacted us today with the following problem:

We have installed four of the Geovision GV-BL320D outdoor mexapixel IP cameras at a location and regularly access them remotely over the Internet from Internet Explorer using the Geovision webcam server. For some reason, we are unable to set the resolution higher than 320 x 240 for remote viewing even though these are 3 megapixel cameras. Please help.

Refer to the following steps on how to enable the actual megapixel resolution for the cameras on the NVR via Webcam:

On Geovision DVR / NVR side:

Disable and re-enable Webcam Server to bring up the Server Setup window (ie Click on the Network button > Webcam Server. Then do it once more)

Go to the Video tab.

Select “Actual Size” for Max. Image size. Click OK.

On Client side (Web Browser):

Connect via IE to the DVR.

Once able to see the live video of the camera, click on the Change Quality button > Hardware Streaming H264 > (select resolution seen there)

A customer contacted CCTV Camera Pros and asked if Geovision surveillance systems support using an external USB 2.0 hard drive for video surveillance storage.

The answer is yes, Geovision can interface with any type of storage that is accessible and can be mapped by the Windows operating system that is being used on the Geovision DVR. However, you want to keep in mind that you must calculate the the bandwidth / data throughput that the USB drive is capable of receiving and calculate the amount of throughput that will be required by the IP and CCTV cameras that will be recording to that drive. You can check the amount of bandwidth that the cameras on the system require but using the built in utility on the GV-System. Each camera’s settings are different, but the tool will give you an average what the total throughput is.

CCTV Camera Pros is an authorized distributor for Geovision. Please post any additional questions or comments about this topic on this support forum thread.

pbmaster2k89,

In the router do you have the options between single port forwarding and port range forwarding. If so make sure you are using the single port forwarding.

If that does not work. Make sure the ISP is not blocking any ports. Usually cable providers do not unless you have one of their business gateways. If you have a business gateway then you will need to have them bridge the gateway to the router.

A customer contacted CCTV Camera Pros this week and asked if Geovision surveillance systems support auto tracking PTZ cameras. This is a feature that allows a pan, tilt, zoom camera to automatically move on it's own in order to track objects that come into view such as people and vehicles. Here is the answer that CCTV Camera Pros provided:

Geovision supports auto-tracking PTZ via software. Users must add a Geovision advanced video analytics software dongle to their Geovision DVR in order to enable this feature. The cost of the advanced video dongle is $229.99 from CCTV Camera Pros. In addition, users must use a supported IP PTZ camera such as these from Geovision:

So for example, if you have 5 cameras being accessed at the same time for all users, the Geovision system can support 25 simultaneous users.

This goes for Geovision DVR cards as well as GV-NVR IP camera software.

Hello, I am in search of information on connecting my new Geovision GV-IO 16E Box (with ethernet connectivity option." I have the instruction manual that came with it and also the geovision pdf file. I finally got my network which consist of two netgear routers to see the factory gv-io box network address of 192.168.0.100 under "my attached devices" The next step of typing 192.168.0.100 in the web brouser brought me to the network config page (built into the gv-io box). I could see all the factory ip address in the boxes already filled out. I then tried to see in my geovision dvr if I had i/o control, but it didn't seem to work. So further in the instruction they talked about entering the static Ip address (which I have) into the network config page. I changed the factory settings to match my static ip, sub net mask, default gatewaty, etc, and they hit submit. Now, with those changes, entering the 192.168.0.100 or the new static ip will not bring me into the gv-I/O network config page anymore. There doesn't seem to be any reset button on the device to restore default settings. I wish there was then I could at least get back into the network config page and see what i may have done wrong. Does anybody now how to accomplish this?
If so, I would really appreciate any tips. I don't want to have to buy another $180.00 GV-I/o 16E device. Also The Gvnetmodule utility used to show the device connected, but with the network config page changes it can't find the device either.

My system consist of a gv-1480 card, windows xp, Geovision 84-IOB16-10E Product #-or the Gv-i/o box 16E model #.
Thanks for any suggestions

Hello Today we had a customer call with the following question.

Question: Can you unplug the external USB HDD and plug in as needed to be used like a "hot swap hard drive".

Answer: Every time you want to remove it, you have to log into the web interface and Log into the storage settings right next to the format section there is a "Remove" button. That is the safe eject button. If you just unplug it, the most recent video files would not be properly written into the database the "Eject" button forces the database to update before removing it from the storage pool.

The GV-VS04H network video server supports iPhone access using the free GV-Eye HD iPhone app. See the below video for a demonstration of the video server connected to 4 CCTV cameras being viewer remotely over the Internet from an iPhone.

Another nice thing is that the App can connect to multiple servers so are not limited viewing only one set of 4 cameras. Also the app works with all Geovision IP cameras.

I'm going to answer my own question: RPB issue is fixed with a patch to the server. Quote from the recent change log to the iPhone app:

3. Fixed GV-IView v2.1 can not playback(RPB) video file from V8.4.0.0 DVR/NVR (should update a patch file from http://www.geovision.com.tw/mis/GVLVLServer.zip to NVR/DVR folder)

So just download the aforementioned file, unzip and put the contents into wherever you installed Geovision software. Completely close Geovision app on the PC and start it again.

I am trying out the iPhone GV-iView app and can see the Live View fine, but when I try using the RPB videos, all it shows me is a quickly flickering image (a video which is just a quick succession of green and blue frames - headache inducing).

I am using it on the local network to rule out any port forwarding issues. I can see the list of recordings (motion events) but clicking any of them just brings up flickering green/blue image. What could be the problem?

The following chat transcript has some very useful information related to the Geovision GV-VS04H video server which provides CCTV to IP conversion for 4 cameras.

Customer:
Regarding the Geovision GV-VS04H network video server, I just wanted to make sure all 4 cameras could be veiwed at the same time & if i used used 25 or so if they would work with evologic software

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
Hello, yes you can view all 4 cameras on the same screen. From which device were you planning on viewing from?

Customer:
I was wanting to use a mac pro with evologic software

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
I am not familiar with evologic software. Is that for video surveillance?

Customer:
yes

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
Can you explain how you wanted the video server and the evologic software to work together?

Customer:
i currently have less than 100 analog cams & i want to convert them to ip & use software on a mac to veiw them

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
ah, I see. In order to view cameras connected to the Geovision GV-VS04H, you must use the included NVR software that comes with the server. This software is designed for Windows. Your Mac computers can then connect to the webserver on the Geovision NVR software PC to view your cameras.

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
Unfortunately there is not a direct interface to the web server of the video server for non-Internet Explorer browsers. You can connect direct to the server using iPhone, iPad, and Android. But not direct from Mac. I have spoken to Geovision product management and requested that direct Mac access be added to the development roadmap.

    Does this make sense?

Did you realize that for Mac access you do need to run the Geovision NVR software on a Windows PC?

Customer:
no i didnt.. i am currently using pci cards in multiple pcs & its working ok but the pci cards are getting obsolete. i need something with more power & less pc's

Customer:
i would like to use network type cams instead of going thru the internet

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
So you are looking to migrate over time from Analog to IP cameras. That is the overall goal?

Customer:
yes, i need something to network my cctv cams if possible

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
OK, I think I have a better solution for you. For now, you can use Geovision DVR cards & your existing PCs for your existing CCTV cameras. The Geovision software that is included with the Geovision DVR cards is a hybrid so will work with both Geovision DVR cards / CCTV cameras as well as Geovision IP cameras

Customer:
a pc can only handle 16 cams, i need something to handle at least 100 cams

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
The Geovision software is awesome and accessible by both Mac and PC. Also iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackckberry, etc. Each GV PC can actually handle up to 32 cameras.

Customer:
i want to do away with pc's

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
There is software to manage more than one PC to scales to hundreds or thousands of cameras.

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
And you also want to eventually do away with your analog cameras?

Customer:
yes

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
So you want a non-PC based recorder?

Customer:
yes

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
OK. Let me check something...

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
This is a stand alone NVR that we supply: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Network-Digital-Video-Recorder-p/nuuo-nv-4160.htm

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
There is a new version coming out next month that is completely accessible via Mac OS

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
There is no single device that I know of that can handle 100+ cameras and has direct Mac access. You will need multiple recorders but they can be managed centrally so it does not seem like separate physical devices. For your existing IP cameras, this IP server is compatible with the NUUO NVR: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Video-Encoder-p/vivotek-vs7100.htm. That IP server is also accessible directly from Mac using Safari, Firefox, or Chrome web browsers, unlike the Geovision IP server.

Customer:
i will check this out .. thanx

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
your welcome. Do you have any additional questions?

Customer:
that will do for now ..have a good one

CCTV Camera Pros Support:
OK, if you think of anything, you can email me at mike@cctvcamerapros.net. Thank You!

I got everything working on our GV800 system. Problem is....about once a week, the CPU stays on (lights/fans) but the monitor turns off completely. I have swapped monitors, cords, unplugged/plugged back in, etc and same thing regardless. I have even switched graphic cards.

I am thinking its either the CPU, motherboard, or the GV800 card doing this. Has anyone ever heard of this before or does that trigger any thoughts of what could be going on?

Its working fine now and has for about 5 days. Its usually around the 6-8 day range when this happens. I have to unplug the CPU then turn it back on...then everything works fine. When the system does this goofy thing, you cannot connect remotely to watch the cameras nor does it record.

dav,

That is correct you can use the webcam server anywhere in the world as long as you have internet connectivity. If you want to connect via a web browser you will need to use Internet Explorer. You need to type in your ip address in the URL. Once you log in you will need to install the active X controls.

You can also use the GeaVision Remote Client software which can be downloaded here http://usavisionsys.com/download/file.php?category=1&file=f899139df5e1059396431415e770c6dd

I am wondering, is the Geovision Webcam Servor an application that I could use anywhere i can get to a webroser. Or does it require special software downloaded to the computer with that I want to remote access my home geovision dvr. I do some traveling, and sometimes I don't bring my laptop, but I do run accross some free wifi internet cafe. I have a static ip and the geovision 1480 card. Currently I use a hamachi application that is on both my geovision based dvr and my laptop I take to work. I'm just thinking since I now have a static I could just type the ip/port in the brouser and apply the username and password to access it anywhere in the world. Is this right? Anyone have a link for directions.?

Hello everyone. I have a geovision dvr connected to my home network and I can access it just fine from my iphone 4 , with the gv-iview app. when i try to use the app on my iphone outside my network using at&t 3g, i can only get the recorded view portion to work. When i select the live view (dvr) using the required same ip address it starts to go to the six camera split screen page, but it is all black and only shows dvr and record button for a breif moment then it crashes and the app clodes completly. I have all the required ports open, 8866. 80, 5511, etc. I have checked them using the open port tool. The only thing that seems wierd is I cant port forward port 80 to my netgear router. It says it is already being us by other configurations. But the port checker tool says its open. And like i said the app does work with recorded view, just not live view. The geovision capture card is 1480 ver. 8.3.4, and my iphone app is Gv-iView v2.1.1. Do you know how to correct this problem. I see it over and over again on support forumns and I have tried many of the tips I found on the forumns. Let me know if you have a solution. Thanks

A customer recently contacted CCTV Camera Pros and asked the following question related to Geovision surveillance systems:

Hello, I have 5 locations, each with a Geovision GV-800 System. With the Geovision GV-Control Center software, can I view all locations in one screen or do you have another solution that you recommend?

CCTV Camera Pros provided the following response:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. You can monitor up to 5 locations and 80 cameras using the Geovision Center V2 CMS software that is included on the Geovision CD. For more than 5 locations you need to upgrade to the Professional Center V2 software. Please refer to this page for more information and setup instructions for Geovision Center V2:

A customer recently contacted CCTV Camera Pros and asked the following:

I have a Geovision GV-1480 surveillance system working fine. It is Geovision software Version 8.31. I want to know how do I add one or two PTZ cameras for parking lot I like PTZ-A10X Pan Tilt Zoom Camera, and its demo on your website.

CCTV Camera Pros providing the following information:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. In order to use two PTZ-A10X Pan Tilt Zoom Cameras with your Geovision surveillance DVR, you must add a Geovision GV-COM RS-485 PTZ controller to your system which you can find here:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/geovision-gv-com-p/gv-com.htm

You can also use a Geovision GV-NET PTZ controller if you prefer that the controller is installed inside the PC instead of as an external USB device.

PTZ cameras require an additional pair of cable for the PTZ controls. This cable pair connects to the GV-COM controller. When setting up more than one PTZ camera, you can daisy chain the RS-485 cables from one PTZ to the next. This means that you run the RS-485 cables (typically a single pair from a CAT-5 or CAT-3 is used) from the GV-COM or GV-NET to the first PTZ camera, then run an additional cable pair out of the RS-485 of the first camera and into the RS-485 inputs of the second camera.

You can find more information about setting up PTZ cameras using Geovision here:

I have two customers that have the same trouble of the gv-iview working on DVR wifi but not on the 3G. It has worked for 9 months. They say it started 3 days ago. Have checked the port forwarding on both, nothing has changed. Both have the same ISP. Thanks!

I just upgraded my Iphone to the iphone4 and now I can not get my gv-iview to work. It does work when on the wifi of the dvr system but not on the 3G. I know it has something to do with port forwarding but no ports were changed from when it used to work. Can someone help or just ideas. Thanks.

A customer contacted CCTV Camera Pros and asked the following questions related to a Geovision surveillance system:

Does Geovision have a bandwidth calculator for customers to calculate / estimate upload requirements / bandwidth speed for Internet connections based on streaming 16 cameras. Also if there is a way to limit remote viewing to only certain cameras to conserve bandwidth.

Geovision technical support responded with the following information:

Yes there is a Geovision bandwidth calculator available online here: http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/cal_webcam_test1-5.asp

For 16 channels of CCTV cameras over the internet, it usually required around 1Mbps to 2Mbps of upload speed depending on resolution settings of the cameras.

You can manipulate the quality and number of cameras that can be seen across the web using the Geovision main console.

Philippe,
There is a 12 port text sender dongle available which installs onto the dvr. It should work but there may be tons of tech support involved POS = Pain in the Rear.

I hope this helps.

Thanks

Luke,

Are you using a user account that has the privilege setup to be able to view the cameras remotely. If so check and make sure you are using the correct password.

Also what ports have you forwarded?

Thanks James

Hi, I work for a retail chain store located in Dallas and I was wondering if anyone here recomends the POS solution.

Contacting the geovision office they told me that for windows based POS I needed the text sender dongle, which is around 500 dollars for the 10 port one.

If we have around 10 cash registers in each store it means that the 10 port dongle would be enough for all of them or do I need more? Also our reports are generated at the server so I don't know if that changes anything.

JC, I found out how to change it, in case someone needs it in the future:

1 - Go to the Control Center bar,
2 - Click on Edit and then System Configure,
3 - From the Matrix tab you can choose the exact position where the matrix screen will pop up when you turn the system on.

Thank y'all.
