Mike on "NUUO vs. Geovision DVR Cards"

A customer recently contacted us with the following questions. Our answers are inline with the message:

Thank you for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. Please see answers to your questions below:

We currently have a JPEG2000 stand alone 16 camera DVR. We’ve picked out a nice rack mount server that we’d like to install a DVR card in to replace the JPEG2000. I see NUUO and Geovision, any major differences with them?

They both support the same major features. NUUO is compatible with many more brand of IP cameras if you ever plan on using any IP cameras in your system. NUUO is also a little more flexible in supporting multiple cards on a single system.

We were looking at the GV-1240-16. I noticed the GV-1240-16 comes with Geovision version 8 software. Does that include some remote viewing capabilities?

Yes, both NUUO and Geovision are able to be remotely viewed from either Internet explorer or from the remote viewing client included on the CD.

Looks like there’s separate CMS software for both NUOO and Geovision.

That is correct, both include CMS.

For storage with either card, does it require a single drive or RAID array, or can we configure it to record onto multiple local drives?

Yes, either systems can record to one or multiple drives and both NUUO and Geovision support RAID because they are built in Windows which supports RAID.

And would should we not use the OS drive for recording?

Correct, we always recommend not using the OS drive for video storage.

Is there an easy formula for figuring how much history we can record before overwriting?

Here is a link to a calculator for NUUO:
http://support.nuuo.com/calculator/

I apologize that I do not have one for Geovision.

We’d like to get the best quality but still be able to save a reasonable amount, might end up with 4GB in storage but can easily add more if needed.

Just looking to make sense of this so I can comfortably make a recommendation, both seem to be about the same price.

I understand. Please let us know if we can help further. Also here is a link to some useful NUUO videos if you have time to take a look.

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/NUUO-Surveillance-Systems-s/296.htm#videos

Sincerely.

Do NUUO surveillance systems support SSL for encrypted login when you access remotely over the Internet from a web browser?

NUUO technical support had the following answer:

The NVRmini can support SSL for login if you are using IE browser because the login interface of web browser on NVRmini is “https”.

If you use NUUO remote live viewer and remote playback application instead of Internet explorer, the NVRmini can’t support SSL for login.

A customer contacted CCTV Camera Pros via email with the following inquiry:

>>>>>>>>>>>
We have an old Linux dvr system who Hard drive is defective. We don't have any support for that system. However, the CCTV video cameras and capture cards still work. We need your advise on what software (windows XP based) that we can use for video surveillance and recording etc.

The cards are CCTV with conexant Fusion 878A chipset.

Kindly advise if you have compatible software that will work with these cards and what would be the cost.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

99% of the time surveillance software will only work with the DVR cards that is produced by the same manufacturer and is not sold separately. This is the case with the 2 DVR card lines that CCTV Camera Pros distributes, whcih is NUUO and Geovision. You can find additional information, PC requirements, and software feature information on the following pages for NUUO and Geovision DVR cards:

I understand that I can control these cameras from remotely over the network or internet using the on screen controls build into the Internet explorer user interface, but we were wondering if you can use a joystick from the remote PCs to control the PTZ cameras.

CCTV Camera Pros contacted NUUO surveillance support and they told us that starting with NUUO 3.2 software, that it is possible to control PTZ cameras from remote PCs.

Question: Is it possible to connect an external hard drive (HDD) to a NUUO PC-based DVR, use it to record your surveillance video and then simply move the drive to another computer to view the recorded playback?

Answer: Yes this is possible, but you would first have to download the free trial version of the NUUO Surveillance Software on the secondary computer. You will not be able to download the same version because you must have a NUUO DVR capture card installed on the computer. Once you have downloaded the free version, connect your external HDD to the primary computer and follow these steps:

1. Open the NUUO Main Console
2. Go to Config > Setting
3. Click the "General" tab to view the directory (file path) in which NUUO is storing the recorded video files
4. Change the directory to point to your external HDD

Your NUUO surveillance system will now record to the external hard drive you have specified and you can move the drive freely between the two computers.

We are in the process of updating our NUUO technical support server with the latest NUUO software version, NUUO 3.20. We have a hybrid system with a NUUO SCB-5016 card and a 4 channel SCB-IP+04 license dongle.

We uninstalled the old version of NUUO and ran the autorun 3.20 version and everything went OK so far. When we try to start the main console we get a message that says "Please convert dongle to SN license and restart H.264 hybrid system".

Can you please help us to document the instructions to convert the dongle to SN license? I assumed that the license was the # on the dongle, but that did not work. Please let us know.

simon:
I have the Nuuo 4016 Pci, I cant get playback to work. Operating software xp sp3. It used to work. Is it possible that one of windows updates is not compatible with the Nuuo sofware?

Customer Support:
Hi Simon. It is possible. Did you just run an update? Where any other changes made on the PC like other new software installed?

simon:
No I did not install any software. The update happen about 2 weeks ago, but i did not use the playback until now.

Customer Support:
OK. I will need to get a list of the hardware that you used to build the PC.

Customer Support:
I am going to open up a case on our forum right now. I will send you instructions on how to get all of your system information to add to the case and I will ask NUUO support to help. Did you make sure that your system met all of the hardware compatibility requirements when you built the PC?

simon:
Yes, and everything worked fine for a while.

NUUO Support,

We are about to upgrade the firmware of a NUUO NV-2040 for our installation partner. The current version of firmware on the NUUO NVR mini that we are about to upgrade is 1.03. We want to upgrade to the latest version, which looks like it is version 2.0 on the NUUO wiki. The firmware installation instructions make it seem like you can not upgrade directly from 1.03 to 2.0. It looks like you have to first be in firmware version 1.3 to upgrade to firmware 2.0.

So our question is, do we first nee to upgrade the firmware of the NVRmini to version 1.3 before we upgrade to 2.0?

NUUO Support,

We have a customer that reported that setting up the dual monitor support using a 5000 series card is not as convenient as having a spot monitor output like with the NUUO SCB-4016 card or with Geovision cards 1120 and higher. The reason is this:

To setup the dual monitor, the customer must open an Internet Explorer window and connect with the Live Viewer, then drag that window to the second monitor and select full screen

This is not easy to do if the 2nd monitor is in another room

If the computer needs to reboot or if there is a power outage, he does not know of a way to automate setting up the 2nd monitor display and does not want to do it manually each time.

The customer asked us if there are any plans to support dual monitor with the 5000 series cards or any plans to add a spot monitor output like on the 4016 card?

Please let us know.

A customer recently contacted us to ask if their IP based PTZ camera could be configured by the NUUO software to go on an auto patrol where is would continuously go to preset locations over and over. Their camera does not support this, so they want to use the NUUO software to program the auto patrol function.

NUUO support responded that this was supported by configuring the preset points within the NUUO surveillance software by following these steps:

In NUUO software, we have a function named patrol which can make the PTZ camera to scan the preset points in period of time.

On the main console screen, there is a preset panel. Click on SET button to add preset point that you want. Repeat this step to add all presets.

Open patrol panel to set up patrol group by clicking on the patrol button on the main console

Click on PATROL panel to start patrol function

Please post a reply to this forum thread if you have any questions.

An engineer from NUUO recently recommended the following to on of our customers with the NUUO SCB-4016 card who was experiencing video problems:

Hello mike,

As to Milton’s problem, I provided with him the NUUO all-in-one windows driver and it looks to resolve the flashing video problem he was experiencing.

He will get back to me next week if the system runs well still.

I suggest you use the all-in-one driver to trouble shoot when your customers have any similar problems or errors such as:

can’t find PCI devices

video blinking

No video

line scrolling over the video

Most problems related to NUUO surveillance video display and quality are related to software driver.

NUUO will include the all-in-one driver in next version (NUUO 3.2 package) and I think installing the wrong driver will be no longer an issue because the all-in-one driver can detect the card model and install the proper driver automatically.

So far please use the all-in-one driver installer for current troubleshooting.

You can download the all-in-one driver here:

NUUO Support,

We have a customer that has an existing PC based NUUO DVR with CCTV cameras. The customer has two other locations that he want to add cameras to. He is thinking that he wants to use IP cameras at the two additional locations along with 4 channel NUUO miniNVRs. The question is can he use the central monitoring software included with the NUUO NVR/DVR software to view cameras on both the stand alone NVRs as well as the PC based DVR?

Thank You.
