I have a 4-CH Standalone DVR with 4 Cameras, Computer Monitor in main living room. I later set up set 2 more cameras with a new LCD TV for a monitor in the bedroom (have to toggle the two cables because I do not have a DVR in the bedroom).
What I want[i][b]to do is view ALL of the cameras from the den/computer room. I have a computer system which can power two separate monitors (have a second matching 22" widescreen monitor I could use). Can I do this wireless somehow? I have dial up internet. If this CANNOT be done, could someone let me know please. If it can, I'd love some guidance as to where to begin. Thanks for any input.

A customer contacted CCTV camera pros with the following questions / requirements for a new system:

While contracting construction, Cat5 cable was inadvertently used instead of RG59 coaxial cable for the CCTV camera system that we are planning. We are looking for 6 cameras with 600TVL or better and I am strictly a MAC user. We want motion sensing and possibly one or two camera to be wireless (difficult wiring). Can you please make a recommendation?

CCTV Camera Pros response:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. Using CAT-5 is not a problem even with CCTV Cameras. You can use video baluns to leverage the CAT-5 to run both power and video to CCTV cameras. Please take a look at these:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/UTP-CAT5-Balun-p/balun-pv5fm.htm

Our iDVR has an excellent Mac DVR client that is included and the recorder also supports motion sensing and recording. I think it is the best Mac DVR client on the market. Please take a look at the iDVR here:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Internet-Video-Surveillance-DVR-s/424.htm

You can see some screen shots and a short video of the Mac DVR viewer software here:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Internet-Video-Surveillance-DVR-s/424.htm#mac-dvr-viewer-software

Here are some 600TVL+ models that you can look at. You did not mention indoor or outdoor so I included links some of each of the best models that we recommend for indoor and outdoor surveillance.

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Dome-Infrared-Camera-p/dpro-9620vf.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Outdoor-CCTV-Camera-p/bipro-s600vf12.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Vandal-Dome-Camera-p/dpro-as700.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Night-Vision-CCTV-Camera-p/bipro-s700vf50.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Box-Security-Camera-p/pro-680dn.htm

Being that you are able to leverage your CAT-5, please let me know if you still need wireless. It does tend to complicate things and is not as reliable as a hard wired solution. I recommend avoiding wireless if possible, but we do have it as a last resort option.

I'm looking to put a camera inside a church, and send video to the "cry room" so mothers can see the pastor during sermons. The camera would sit at the back of the sanctuary, maybe about 70-100 feet from the pastor, and 10-12 feet above the floor. The cable run would be only about 20 feet long. It would attach to an LCD television, but HD is not necessary, just something that looks decent.

Any recommendations? The box cameras look appropriate. Maybe with a 16 mm lens? We want to zoom in on the pastor from the back of the room.

The lighting situation is pretty good. How many lines of resolution should I look for? 320 TV lines seems to be the lowest available.

Can the BNC connector be adapted to coax/RCA/VGA directly, or does there need to be some device between the camera and the TV?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello. Looking at building my 1st system and have a few questions to guide me.

Want to install 1 maybe two small cameras indoors and perhaps 2-3 outdoors. Want them wireless. I understand I need to add power.

1) Someone turns off the power to the house. How do I get around that? Can I add battery backup to every camera?

2) Someone gets in then just steals the DVR. How do I get around that? Can any unit be set to upload the video somewhere?? What do most do for this? Defeats the purpose if they steal the unit after getting in the house.

3) I see some units support x # of cameras. Would like to be able to expand also. What about this, or is that only something to worry about of they were hardwired and since I want wireless, I can exponentially add cameras up to whatever HDD space there is on a unit?

4)Would like to have 2-3 wireless cameras that can record at night and are wireless and can get wet if it rains. I can supply power, but would like to be able to add battery backup. Can I do that for u nder $200 a camera?

5) Will the cameras and DVR integrate with the wireless I already have in the house. Standard WPA/WPA2 etc G/N type router?

I hope someone can give me some guidance on this. I'm ready to order some stuff, but not sure about the issues I have questions on.

Thanks so much so I can start ordering!
Chris

On September 20th, 2011, I accidentally left some cash on a lobby counter in a hotel. The money was in a small envelope that I had gotten from the bank. I was checking in that day, and I immediately recognized my mistake once I got back to my room. I quickly ran back to the counter to find that the envelope was gone. I asked the receptionist at the counter if I had left a small envelope, and they said "no". I now have substantial reason to believe that they are lying.
The lobby has a surveillance camera. I tried to get the surveillance footage of that day directly from the hotel, but they obviously don't want me to have it. At first they told me that the tapes are kept at a different location. They then told me that the lobby camera doesn't record, it only monitors. I believe they don't want me to see that they are the ones that took my money.
So here's my question. Is there any way that I can find out whether or not that camera actually records without the hotel knowing about it? If I could prove that the camera does record, and that the hotel is lying, I could have enough evidence to take them to small claims court.
I initially tried contacting the local police, but they were no help. They didn't seem to want to get involved. They sent out an officer who made me explain everything to the hotel before asking for the footage. I believe that if the police had asked for the footage without me being present, and if they didn't tell the hotel what it was for, they may have gotten the footage. But the police didn't want to do it that way. As a result, the hotel began giving these different stories about the whereabouts of the footage, and whether or not it even exists. Now they're on alert. Is there any way that I can find out whether or not their lobby camera actually records without them knowing about it?
I contacted a detective's office to see if this is something they could do, but they want to charge me boat-loads of money to do it. So I get the feeling that this can be found out. Is there any way to do it without spending lots of money? Thanks for your time, and for any help that you may be willing to offer.

A customer contacted CCTV Camera Pros with the following question related to CCTV video processors:

I would like to ask if the following surveillance products: VM-Q401A CCTV Color Quad Processor and the VM-16RT 16 Channel Video Multiplexer with Real-time Refresh and BNC connection share the same remote controller. We would like to get these two product but only if we're sure that they don't share similar or the same remote control that would cause overlapping with each other during operation.

Please send me details so we can decide what to get from these two if not both. Also if you have other similar products that would solve the problem with Remote control issue.
They will be located in the same rack that may cause overlapping of remote control transmission.

Here is the response that CCTV Camera Pros technical support provided:

Our test engineers have run tests to confirm and have concluded that there is no interference when using a VM-Q401A and a VM-16RT in the same rack. You can use the wireless remote controls from each device without interfering or controlling the other device.

Please let us know if you have additional questions.

CCTV Camera Pros was recently contacted by a customer that wanted to use a video surveillance system with CCTV cameras to monitor manufacturing processes. Here are the questions the customer had:

I am trying to design a monitoring setup for machinery in out shop and would like some help if at all possible. I have several machines i would like to add cameras to for the operators so they can monitor the rear of the machines to monitor moving axis of the machine without having them leave the front of the machine. I do not need to have the video recorded just monitored. The maximum distance from the camera would be 4-5 meters say 15ft max the minimum would be maybe 2-3 ft. I would like to be able to pan/tilt and maybe zoom if possible. I know this is a odd request but if you could help i would appreciate it.

CCTV Camera Pros response:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. It is not really an odd request. We get requests fairly often to use surveillance systems and CCTV cameras to monitor manufacturing and other factory processes. Here are two options for you. If you would like a camera that can pan, tilt, and zoom, here are the parts that you need:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Pan-Tilt-Zoom-Security-Camera-p/ptz-d10x.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/PTZ-Camera-Controller-p/ck-983321.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/LCD-BNC-Monitors-s/438.htm (any monitor on this page)

If you choose to go with a fixed camera (non-PTZ), then this is the one I would recommend. Note that you do not need the controller with this camera because there is no PTZ:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Box-Security-Camera-p/pro-680dn.htm

With either camera, you can use one of these cables to run the video and power to the camera:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Surveillance-Camera-Cables-p/50vp.htm

If you go with the PTZ camera, you also need another 2 wires to run the RS-485 controls from the camera to the joystick. You can use a single pair out of a CAT-5 cable for this or a standard 18/2 power cable.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

A customer recently contacted CCTV Camera Pros via email with the following problem:

I currently have a 16 ch Lorex DVR, and I hate it more than words can describe. The PC software is awful, and controlling the playback, etc, has to be done through the panel and it is making me crazy.

I am a system builder, very comfortable with computers. I would prefer to build a Windows based system that gives me the ability to email, set alerts, ftp video offsite, monitor via web interface, etc. I’m comfortable with Linux too if that makes a difference.

I have some pretty decent network cameras, so I think all I would need is 2 four channel input cards and the software. Any recommendations of what software package and what input cards I could use?

Do you have the software you sell installed at a demo site?

CCTV Camera Pros Email Response:

Keith,

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. I am sorry to hear that you are not happy with your current Lorex DVR system. We do not carry Lorex but have heard many similar complaints over the years. The NUUO DVR cards and NUUO IP cameras software that CCTV Camera Pros supplies is an excellent choice for greater video and software quality that what is typically available in inexpensive stand alone DVRs. This is a Windows solution. You can find more information and watch some demonstration videos of the NUUO software and DVR cards on our website here:

If you would like to setup a time that I can give you a demonstration, please email me at mike@cctvcamerapros.net. We do have a system that you can log into for a demo by appointment.

The following chat transcript was taken from a customer seeking assistance with an IP security camera system consisting of multiple locations and the customer wanted to record the surveillance video from all locations centrally.

New Surveillance Customer:
I'm working with a Solar company and we are doing several different locations in NJ and PA. I have to put security cameras in each location and we would like to have them broadcast back to a main security hub. So pretty much assuming each building needs 8 cameras,I need some type of system that can handle 40-60 cameras streaming into a remote location that is receiving all the video feeds from several different locations. Is this possible? If so,what do I need to accomplish this task? What specific products would I need for each site? I'm trying to get an idea so I can get a package for every site together. Is this something you can help me out with?

Welcome Stephen! Your request has been directed to the Technical Support department. Please wait for our operator to answer your call.

Call accepted by operator Customer Support. Currently in room: Stephen, Customer Support.

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
Hi Stephen my name is Mike. Let me read your text...
broadcast back to a main hub using IP?

New Surveillance Customer:
Yes I'm assuming it would have to be IP considering there's several different location so many miles apart transmitting to a single location. So I need to find a way to network them back to a main networking hub.

I already plan on getting a dedicated service provider out for each building

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
What are you going to do with all of the video feeds at the central location? Just live viewing locally at the central hub? recording?

New Surveillance Customer:
We want to record all the feeds at the central location. Yes,we will have 24/7 security watching the feeds.

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
OK. Remote recording is kind of a tricky thing. 1) each location will need a very high upload speed on the Internet connection 2) It needs to be extremely reliable - if Internet goes down, recording goes down. Have you considered recording locally at each location but managing and viewing remotely all systems?

New Surveillance Customer:
I know the old way would be to setup the cameras to a DVR and then attach internet to it and then access it from a remote location. I'm hazy on all the details of that but now I'm seeing something about an NVR which I'm told is easier for remote viewing all at one location. Is that true, and will it work?

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
Yes, we have NVRs that will do what you are asking. However, the Internet connection is the part that usually presents the biggest challenge for people. One sec, let me calculate required bandwidth for you...

In order to record 8 cameras using 704x480 resolution @ 5 frames per second, you will need 1258 KBPS upload speed at each remote location.

So for 5 locations with 8 cameras each, the central hub needs 1258 x 5 download speed on the Internet connection.

So DSL is not really an option for the remote locations unless you lower the FPS or the resolution.

New Surveillance Customer:
It would be boardband or wideband depending on which is available and which carrier is in the city

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
OK, the type does not really matter as long as the speed requirement is met. You should build in some buffer also because speeds fluctuate from providers from time to time. So if you can get all of the Internet connections in place, you can use any IP camera: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/IP-Security-Cameras-s/83.htm

You can then use a NUUO PC Based NVR for up to 32 cameras on a single recorder: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Network-Video-Recorder-NVR-p/nuuo-pc32ip.htm

New Surveillance Customer:
Usually they rate their speeds based on MBPS,what is 1258 KBPS in relation to MB? I can figure it out later, just off the top of your head if you know?

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
1.258 MBPS

New Surveillance Customer:
So the NVR acts like a pc tower almost then from what I just saw. I would probably need 2 of the NVR's at my central hub, unless you have one that can do up to 60.

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
You are correct. Actually the NUUO PCs can support up to 64, however, NUUO no longer recommends putting more than 32 on one server for performance reasons. The good news is that even though there will be two physical PCs used for recording. All of the cameras can be viewed and managed from pne of the PCs using the central monitoring software that is included.

New Surveillance Customer:
Okay so I think I understand the central hub part.....you put the NVR's down there with monitors and you can adjust the settings and all that good stuff all from there. The part I'm a little hazy on is where do the IP cameras hook up in the actual location? I'm used to wired connections,I know its still wired but just using ethernet. Do all the IP cameras go to some sort of switch or router that connects to the cable modem? I'm assuming that puts it online for anyone to view, and we can password protect. But how do we actually get the picture back to our main hub? I'm assuming its some sort of setting or information we have to put into the NVR to access the cameras and make them apart of our main system?

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
Yes, the cameras at each location are connected to a router which in turn is connected to the high speed modem. You need to setup port forwarding for each of the cameras so they are accessible by the DVR over the Internet. Yes, each camera will be password protected. You can also setup IP filtering so only the IP address of the Hub can connect. At the hub location, you will configure the NVR to connect to each camera using the IP address of the remote location + the port of the camera. Each camera needs to be configured on a unique port.

New Surveillance Customer:
Okay I understand the connection part. How do I setup port forwarding, and IP filtering? Do I need to do this at each remote location,or can I do all the ports and filtering from the NVR?

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
You really do not need the IP filtering, because the cameras are password protected. So forget that for now. Port forwarding info can be found here: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Internet-Surveillance-Setup-s/156.htm

We also offer a service where we can configure the port forwarding of all of the cameras for you. The cost is $25 per camera.

New Surveillance Customer:
That's good to know,we have an IT who might be able to help us out with the port forwarding but if he can't atleast I know that.

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
Yes, it is a little technical which is why some people prefer to let us do it, but if you have an IT guy, he should be fine.

and we can always do one for him and he do the rest. We can help with this remotely while he watches online.

New Surveillance Customer:
Just for my information, you can setup the port forwarding from a remote computer,I'm I correct on that? Based on what your saying,I'm assuming you can.

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
Yes, we use remote management software called team viewer to do this
http://www.teamviewer.com

New Surveillance Customer:
That's pretty neat. So I think I got everything straight on what I need to do. Do you recommend a specific IP camera? Does it make it easier on the NVR if they are all the same type and brand?

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
yes, it is easier on the NVR if they are all the same brand. Are these for outdoor?

New Surveillance Customer:
Yes, all outdoor cameras.

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
These are all good IP camera choices for outdoor applications:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/WDR-Network-Camera-p/ip-v97142.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Outdoor-Infrared-IP-Camera-p/zavio-f521e.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Network-Bullet-IP-Camera-p/ip-v97330.htm

There is no need for you to get anything megapixel resolution as the remote recording will be totally unrealistic.

New Surveillance Customer:
Right,I understand. Okay one last question. We also have a building close by that were not doing solar on,and theres an existing wire run throughout the building. With those I can put your old classic cameras on and hook them up to a dvr and then add internet into the mix and I can then somehow view that like the other IP cameras on the NVR?

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
you are correct.

New Surveillance Customer:
Sweet. This was alot easier then I thought

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
if you think of anything else, you can email me at mike@cctvcamerapros.net.

New Surveillance Customer:
I'm going to come up with a system layout and a report for my boss for this setup. I will probably come back to you guys for all the equipment.

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
Any other questions for now?

New Surveillance Customer:
As of right now I think I'm good. If i think of anything else I'll email you. Thank you for your time and help,I really appreciate it.

CCTV Camera Pros Sales:
Your welcome. Have a good day. Let me know if you need anything else.

New Surveillance Customer:
You do the same

I can't believe how difficult looking for a camera has been. I've been looking for weeks and still can't make up my mind. On one hand I feel my needs are pretty modest, yet on the other hand I can't seem to find the "right" solution for me.

All I need is a single camera to monitor our lobby when we're closed. The lights are all on a motion detector, so they'll come on when anyone is in the field of view. So low light is not a concern.

I would prefer 1280 x 1024 but would settle for 640 x 480. I would definitely say image quality is very important, but I also need to be mindful of the costs. It doesn't need to be WiFi, my router is right on the other side of the wall so Enet 10/100 would be fine.

Here's where I really run into problems, the recording. I'm having a hard time getting a clear explanation of the recording features of many cameras on the manufacturer's websites. I would like the camera to have some capacity to record directly onto a SD card. I really don't want to have to rely on some website/software to do the recording.

There is no dedicated computer to monitor the camera, only to configure it. We're an all Mac shop, but I have Vista via Parallels to do the setup. Would prefer a more Mac friendly setup, but could work around that.

Once the camera is positioned there is not a big need for PTZ, but it would be nice. I definitely need something I can monitor via a web browser Internet and the iPhone. Notifying me of motion, heat, etc. is not necessary.

As far as my budget, if I found the perfect solution I'd go up to $400, but would prefer to be around half that. But I also know you have to pay to get what you want, and since this is the one and only camera we're going to buy I'm willing to invest in it too.

I just installed a Visonic alarm system and this is the final piece needed to complete our security system. Hopefully you will have some good buying advice.

I have a need to get the simultaneous output from 3 cameras equally displayed on 1 monitor.. (in real time, Not Sequentially displayed). I know there are systems with 4 cameras that split the screen of a monitor into 4 grids, but my application requires 3 cameras on 1 monitor. I will also need to record the monitor output.

Can you stir me to a product or source of the required equipment as described above? I am willing to Homebrew in the case you can provide some schematic.

A customer recently asked CCTV Camera Pros the following question related to license plate capture cameras:

Can you tell me the difference between LPR and ANPR license plate surveillance systems & in what circumstances both are used?

CCTV Camera Pros response:

There are really no differences. LPR and ANPR are two different terms used to describe the hardware and software used for license plate recognition and capture using surveillance camera systems.

LPR means license plate recognition and is a term usually used to describe specialty CCTV cameras that is capable of dealing with the challenges associated with capturing license plates such as car speeds, fog, night vision, and reflective license plate material. Here is a link to LPR cameras that we supply:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/License-Plate-Capture-Cameras-s/283.htm

ANPR stands for automatic number plate recognition and is a term usually used in describing software that takes input from an LPR camera and recognizes the alpha numeric characters on a plate using software and is then able to take action on the license plate number such as store it to a database or match it up against database records. Here is a link to ANPR software that we supply:

If you are looking for an advanced DVR, NVR or Hybrid Surveillance System yet still looking for a very easy to manage point and click interface. You should heavily consider NUUO products seen here http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/NUUO-Surveillance-Systems-s/296.htm. NUUO also offers great US based technical support and a very long list of supported ip cameras.

NUUO systems have a one of the easiest graphical interfaces to manage. No technical background is needed. Here are some videos to give you an idea of the user friendliness http://www.nuuo.com/faq.php?node=502 What makes NUUO so great is it has a simple point and click interface, yet does not lack at all when it comes to advanced features. Here is a brochure which displays some of NUUO's most commonly used settings http://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/pdf/NUUO/NUUO-DVR-Card-Brochure.pdf

Combine NUUO's user friendliness and their outstanding customer support and you have yourself a very solid platform to work from. NUUO has US based technical support with a very knowledgeable team. They also have a very helpful support wiki http://support.nuuo.com/mediawiki/index.php/Main_Page which has step by step instructions, common problems and solutions, as well as all of the recent updates and software downloads.

NUUO also has an extremely long list of supported ip cameras. With the industry moving towards ip technology it is beneficial to have a system that has a long list of supported ip cameras. Here is a link to the supported cameras http://support.nuuo.com/mediawiki/index.php/Supported_cameras

When planning for your next system I strongly advise NUUO products. If you have any questions you can call CCTV Camera Pros at 888-849-2288 or visit our website http://www.cctvcamerapros.com

Here is a recent chat transcript with a customer about recording video to a PC:

Customer: I am looking for an indoor surveillance camera that can be viewed via iphone and internet and your support team suggested the Zavio F210A and F312A which appear to be great options, however, I also want to be able to record daily activity - is it possible with these cameras or is there another camera you would recommend?

Customer Support:

These cameras do in fact, come bundled with some basic recording software to support up to 16 cameras. We recommend at least a dedicated 500 GB hard drive separate from the Operating system on your PC. I also recommend the following NUUO IP Camera Software License for more advanced features - http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/NUUO-IP-Camera-Software-s/297.htm

Customer: Thanks. I appreciate it. Are these cameras popular with people who want to monitor nanny activity? Are there any others that you would recommend?

Customer Support: These cameras are a perfect fit for that application and we have sold many as such.

Here is a chat transcript that we recently had with one of our customers regarding a multiple surveillance monitor setup:

Customer: I would like to play 3 out of the 8 cameras I have onto the TV in my lobby. Can you tell me how I would go about doing that? Currently I have 16 BNC Video Inputs, 2 BNC Video Output and 1 VGA.

Customer Support: Usually VGA is used for the main monitor connected to the DVR. If 1 of the 2 BNC video outputs is labeled as "spot monitor", this will allow you to select channels you wish to display in the lobby.

Customer: None of them are labeled as spot from what I can see. Can you tell me what I would need to order please.

Customer Support: Most likely one of them is so you just need a BNC cable - http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/BNC-Video-Jumper-Cables-s/260.htm

with a BNC to VGA Convertor - http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/BNC-TO-VGA-Converter-p/bnc-vga-converter.htm

and a VGA Monitor - http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/LCD-Surveillance-Monitor-p/mon-lcd19.htm

I believe this is the most affordable solution.

Customer: Would I be able to display it on the TV that I currently have in the lobby?

Customer Support: Most modern flat screen TVs have a VGA video input.

Customer: Ok being that I would like to display 3 of the cameras would I need more than one bnc/vga converter? Also I still need it to go to the DVR so would I need some kind of a splitter as well?

Customer Support: No, this is on the video output side. DVR spot monitor out to BNC to VGA Converter, then converter to TV.

Customer: So it would display all the cameras?

Customer Support: This is why you have to determine if either of those BNC outputs have spot monitor functionality. This allows you to select specific channels to display to a secondary monitor. Rather than just duplicating the entire main display.

A customer recently asked us the following:

Do you offer a high end camera that records to an SDS card and has "GREAT" night vision capabilities?

CCTV Camera Pros response:

This camera has 2 megapixel resolution, great night vision, and has an SD card slot: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Outdoor-Megapixel-Camera-p/vivotek-ip7361.htm

I also recommend using a POE injector like this one as the camera is POE compatible
 http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/POE-Injector-Kit-p/poe-12v48.htm

You will also need an 8GB SD card for about 6 hours of recording at one megapixel resolution.

Customer response:

Does this sound like the right product if I don't want a DVR, but could get a still shot photo?

CCTV Camera Pros response:

Yes, if you want a still shot instead of video, this will do well for you. This camera is also outdoor rated. Below I have included a demo video of the particular camera:

I was writing about the iDVR-E16 Stand Alone H.264 DVR, I am wondering if it is possible to map a network drive from the device and on alert, set off an upload of the last 5 minutes of video? I am basically wanting to make sure I have a way to still access the data if someone steals the DVR in a home invasion.

CCTV Camera Pros response:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. That is a great question. Unfortunately, you can not map a network drive using the iDVR, however there are some options to secure your data.

1) You can lock the DVR in a DVR lockbox so that it is secure. The DVR lockbox is like a safe. You can see this option here:

2) Instead of using the iDVR, if you go with a PC based DVR like these from NUUO, you can map a network drive:

A customer recently contacted us with the following:

I'm looking for a nanny cam or hidden cam to place in my house, however i wish it to be able to stream to my iPhone 3G S. I want something that's inconspicuous and that will work for what I want it to. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

CCTV Camera Pros Response:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. The simplest way to do this is my using an IP camera like this one:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Wireless-IP-Camera-p/zavio-f312a.htm

It is not the most inconspicuous camera as you see it there, but be aware that the stand is optional and you can put that camera anywhere. The only part of the camera that needs to be exposed to record video is the lens that you see on the front of the camera which is about the diameter of a nickel. Another nice feature of this camera is that it has built in wireless, so it can be configured to connect to an existing wireless home router. This camera is also iPhone compatible.

Another option is to use a hidden spy camera such as this alarm motion sensor camera:

http//www.cctvcamerapros.com/Motion-Detector-Security-Camera-p/pir-520c.htm

However this camera is hard wired and must be connected to a network video server to make the video stream accessible from your iphone:

Hello to all. Ok, this is the setup that I have for the follow system. 4 x RCA MALE TO BNC FEMALE COAXIAL ADAPTER CONVERTER, 4 x Passive Video audio Power Balun Transceiver RJ45, 2 x bullet IR camera day night color 30 LED video CCTV CCD, 1 x 4channel USB DVR, 1 x dc power adaptor splitter to power up multiple cameras at once, and ethernet cable. I am sure I have installed the correct driver for the USB DVR because it displays the name of the device and plugs, cables correctly. However, cameras receive power but when trying to capture it on the software it still shows no signal. I have tried a straight and crossover cable and no success. I have no clue what else I am missing or doing wrong. If anyone knows a solutions to this, your feedback would greatly be appreciated.

A customer contacted CCTV Camera Pros with the following questions related to integrating a burglar alarm system with a video surveillance system:

We currently have a monitored security system that signals when set the doors opening and a few beams in the facility that if broken will also send a signal. Also the heat and smoke detectors for fire are monitored. This is all done trough the phone line.

However I would like to get away from a third party monitoring system and install a cctv system like you sell.

One concern we have however is the fire alarm system that is connected direct to the security company. Can smoke and heat detectors be connected or monitored easily with your system? What we would like to have happen is if a smoke or heat sensor goes off we are sent a message on our blackberry warning us to check out the situation and make the appropriate decision at that time.

I think the same idea would be helpful if we had motion detector camera, or use our current door sensors and motion sensors to that once set at night will send us a message if they detect motion and again we can check out the situation and make the appropriate decision with the cctv sytem.

What do you think?

CCTV Camera Pros support response:

We have two surveillance systems that are capable of being integrated into alarm system I/O devices, our NUUO surveillance systems and our Geovision surveillance systems.

Both of these are PC based DVRs which have optional I/O boxes that can be connected to them:

NUUO 16 Channel IO module
Geovision GV-IO USB

Basically, you connect these IO boxes to the surveillance DVR via USB. Then connect your dry contacts, smoke sensors, heat sensors, etc. to the IO box inputs. In the surveillance software, you can configure that the alarm input from an IO device alerts you via email. Configure the email address to be the address of your SMS device and you will get a text message on alert from the surveillance system. At that time, you can remotely log in to the system from a computer or mobile phone to see what is going on.

If you are using Blackberry, only the Geovision system supports remote viewing from Blackberry at this time. The NUUO Blackberry phone support is coming out later this year. Both systems currently support iPhone access via a free app.

Here is a sample video that shows the type of video quality that you can expect from a Geovison surveillance system:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Geovision-Surveillance-Video-s/240.htm

Here is a copy of a recent email response to a customer that was asking questions about CCTV Camera Pros iDVR-E8 - 8 channel stand alone surveillance DVR.

I am interested in the iDVR-E8, however, there are some questions that you may be able to help:

8 channel video input - what connectors BNC or RCA?
The DVR used BNC connectors.

What NIC (10/100/1000) is supplied to connect to a LAN router for network viewing?
The DVR has a 100MB network card

Is there provision to install a SATA/IDE DVDROM drive?
There is a USB port is you want to use an externa, DVD drive to export video.

What frame rate when recording ie 120pps/8 = 15pps per channel?
You are correct. All iDVRs support 120 frames per second recording. So for an 8 channel DVR, that is 15FPS per camera.

I have already an installed security camera system connected to a DVR H.264, can I replace my DVR with the iDVR-E8, by connecting all my existing cameras to it? My camera are not IP cameras. They are 1/3'Sony CCD IR cameras.
Yes, you can use your existing CCTV cameras as long as they use either a BNC or RCA type of connection.

I am an Australian Cumstomer , will you post to me./
Yes, we can ship to Australia.

Is software supplied for internet access and iPhone 3Gs viewing?
Yes the remote viewing software is supplied for both remote computer access as well as 3G mobile phone viewing.

A customer recently contacted CCTV Camera Pros via email with the following questions:

I saw Mike's video posting on how-to set up a DVR monitoring system via the internet (on yahoo video).

I am looking to set up an internet-monitored, home monitoring system for my home. I am starting with nothing so I am wondering if you sell a system that has:

- up to 8 cameras
- (preferred but not required) 4 cameras with night vision
- no computer involved (I don't have faith that it won't crash)
- reasonable resolution (VGA or half-VGA) @ ~1 fps over reasonable datarate (need some compression)

CCTV Camera Pros response:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. Please take a look at this surveillance system which includes a stand alone DVR, 4 indoor / outdoor IR cameras, cables, connectors, and power supply:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Home-Surveillance-System-p/syspro-4bi047.htm

This is a new DVR that we started carrying last year and it has been a major success. You can upgrade the DVR in that system to an 8 channel. I can also give you 10% off the price you see online because we are having a promotion / coupon offer right now. If you want to speak to myself or another sales engineer, you can call 888-849-2288, ext 1.

Also here is more info on the DVR:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Home-Surveillance-System-p/syspro-4bi047.htm

It is compatible with iPhone, blackberry, and windows mobile for remote viewing (in addition to laptop or desktop computer support).

Follow up questions & answers:

-I don't need a computer connected to this, do I?
No, but you can use a computer or phone to connect remotely to view the cameras if you choose.

-What kind of crash frequency have you seen from this system? (1 per day? per mo? per yr?)
I have never seen our iDVR model crash. It is very stable.

-I understood the setup described on yahoo video using dyndns. Does this setup work like that?
Yes, if your Internet connection uses a dynamic IP address, you can use the free DynDNS service shown in the video in conjunction with the iDVR.

-If I upgrade the system to 8 channels, does the higher price include 8 cameras and 8 runs of cable?

Here is the 8 camera version of that system:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/CCTV-System-p/syspro-8bi809.htm

I can give you a special promotion price off of what is advertised on the website if you call me at 888-849-2288.

-Can this be configured to alarm/email on a motion trigger, can it? Probably don't need this but could be nice.

This DVR can be configured to send an email on motion activation as long as you have access to an outgoing SMTP mail server to send mail through.

-What is the minimum data throughput necessary to get video? 128kbps? 256kbps?

Ideally you want at least 512K upload speed on your internet connection. The more bandwidth that you have, the better (as with any remote access surveillance system).

I know where to put the camera and what wall but im confuse at what height. The camera is covering a small 4 car parking lot and garage. Where im thinking to put the camera there is a Sodium light in the middle of the wall (1) Do I put the camera above or below the light or doesn't matter

A customer recently contacted CCTV Camera Pros with the following questions related to displaying multiple security camera feeds on one monitor without using a recorder. Below is the chat transcript:

Customer Support:
Hi Frank. How can I help you?

Frank:
We are looking for a video monitor that takes multiple input feeds from a controller so we can see three cameras on the screen at one time. Do you have such monitors or a device that can do this?

Customer Support:
Do your cameras have BNC connections?

Frank:
We are using an r-THREE interface box which has three inputs BNC.

Customer Support:
Please confirm, do you have 3 BNC outputs that you are looking to input to a monitor?

Frank:
yes

Customer Support:
OK, you can use one of these 4 channel video processors / multiplexors: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Quad-Video-Processor-p/vm-99015.htm

and connect it to a monitor that has a BNC or RCA monitor such as this one: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Composite-Surveillance-Monitor-p/mon-lcd-22w.htm

frank:
on this page:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/CCTV-Monitors-s/34.htm
I see a 22inch widescreen can that do the trick?

Customer Support:
Yes, this composite LCD monitor will work just fine: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Composite-Surveillance-Monitor-p/mon-lcd-22w.htm

Frank:
No special other equipment.

Customer Support:
you would just need the cables also.

Frank:
SO I am clear. Does this monitor have multiple BNC inputs?

Customer Support:
No, you connect the 3 BNC connections to the Quad processor, then connect the quad processor to the monitor.

Frank:
so the quad processor will display the multiple video? Do you have quad processors?

Customer Support:
Yes, you can see the quad processor here: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Quad-Video-Processor-p/vm-99015.htm

Frank:
Thanks for your help. I will order online.

We received the following question from a customer that watched our CCTV Camera Pros surveillance videos on youtube.

I've been watching your videos on CCTV and have found them very helpful. After an attempted burglary on my premises last week which has been burgled several times now I would like to setup a CCTV system but I'm not exactly sure what equipment would be best for me.
I already have a spare PC so I think a DVR card would probably be best.

I have a few questions that I hope you can help me with.

1. What exactly does a DVR card do? (you don't have to go into detail!)

2. How is it connected to cameras (I'm looking at the Geovision GV-600 or GV-800 series cards). Is it just a cable going directly from the card directly to the cameras? Do I need a specific type of camera?

3. Is there any other equipment I need besides a PC, DVR card and the CCTV cameras?

4. What are the benefits of recording at a higher frame rate? To me 30fps looks pretty smooth and I can't decide if recording at a higher frame rate will be necessary for me? I'm trying to decide if the GV-600 will be adequate.

Here is a satellite image of my premises.

The red blobs are where I think the cameras will be positioned and the lines are the direction they'd be pointing but I haven't fully decided yet. The green blob is where the PC is located and is where all the cameras will be connected to. Ideally I'd like to put a camera on the office which is the building to the far right but I don't know how I'd run a wire to it.

Any help would be appreciated.

These questions was emailed to CCTV Camera Pros:

say I have an 8 camera computer based surveillance system that came with a dvr software and I am not happy with the software. Do you have just the software that will work on a computer and run my cameras? It has a card that plugs into the computer. Tell me what is require or information I need to send you for compatibility.

CCTV Camera Pros response:

CCTV Camera Pros has excellent PC based surveillance software supplied by NUUO and Geovision. Their software will only work with the DVR cards that they manufacture though. In order to switch the surveillance software on your PC, you will also need to switch the DVR card to the particular vendor's surveillance software that you like. I recommend taking a look at NUUO DVR cards and Geovision DVR cards. You can also find more information about each of them here:

A customer recently sent the following question via email:

I was looking at your surveillance systems but I will need software to convert existing .dvr files to a format that can be read by a standard DVD player. Do you have any software that will convert the existing .dvr files from my older system to a format that can be read by my DVD player?

CCTV Camera Pros answer:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. You must use the software that came with your DVR to view and convert the video files that it exports. It depends on that software as to whether you can then convert the DVR video files to another format. Our software that is included with our stand alone DVRs as well as our PC based DVRs allows you to export to AVI file but only works with video files recorded by the units that the software was developed for. Unfortunately, it is not generic software that will convert any other DVR manufacturers video files to AVI or some other generic format.

That would be nice if there was a generic conversion utility out there, but I do not know of one for video surveillance files.

One of he most convenient systems to export a video to an AVI file (which is an easy file to then convert to any format you need) is our NUUO PC based DVRs.

Please take a look at this video to see how easy it is to search for surveillance video footage to be exported:

We recently received the following system planning question from a potential customer:

My wife and I have a second home in Maine and I would like to install a remote viewing security camera system that incorporates up to 3 PTZ cameras. I have been looking at your site and found that the Everfocus EPTZ1000 camera has the specs that I'd like to have. Ideally, we'd be able to control and view the cameras either from the Maine home, or elsewhere via the Internet. What can you offer for suggestions for a system with remote PTZ controls?

CCTV Camera Pros Recommendation:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros and for your interest in doing business with us. If it is within your budget, I would recommend this outdoor IP PTZ camera over the analog EPTZ1000. The reason is because IP PTZ cameras are much easier to setup and adjust because both the video and the controls are all done digitally over a cat-5 data cable. In addition, the video is captured and transmitted digitally using a progressive scan sensor on the IP model which provides a really awesome picture. Here is the IP based PTZ camera that I would recommend:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Outdoor-IP-PTZ-Camera-p/ip-v97151.htm

I can work with you on the price if you were to buy 3 of them with a recorder to get it much closer to the price of the EPTZ1000 camera. I would recommend 3 of the IP-V97151 cameras with one of our NUUO stand alone network video recorders:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Network-Video-Recorder-p/nuuo-nv-2040.htm

This recorder will let you login to view and control all three cameras remotely from Internet explorer. The NVR also has some amazing recording features and and an easy to use interface. You can watch a video here to see the NVR in action:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Network-Video-Recorder-s/299.htm#NVR-video-demo

Please email or call me to discuss further. I look forward to working with you.

I have sold a 31 location Small Enterprise. Each store will have 4 cameras and 1 sound pack, 31 GV800-16 DVR's. I will be putting these on the Internet and using CV2 to receive at headquarters if it is workable.
The question is; is there a formula to calculate the bandwidth required to download maybe 65 of 124 motion activated into the CV2 over the internet? I have not sold them this technology yet due to the fact that I am concerned on the limitations of the Internet.
Would it be something like say, 368kb*31=11408(11mb) uploaded to 20mb download, and will this affect 6 to 10 users with light traffic on the headquarters local Lan, streaming high incoming traffic during the day and little or none at night 24/7?
My largest client before this business was 18 locations and recently found out he will spend the 450 dollars a month for T1 capabilities and would like to do the same for him. He has hired a person full-time to watch his locations and does it from a 1.5/6 connection.
The other question is, has anybody used the Bandwidth program that comes with Geovison software to control bandwidth usage and if yes, is it worth researching into this technology?

A customer recently contacted us with the following pre-sales questions while planning a surveillance system:

We are seeking to purchase a system with the following parameters:

1. Remote viewable
2. High quality - but balanced against bandwidth
3. Initially 4 indoor and 4 outdoor cameras, expandable to 16, all hardwired
4. Area coverage approximately 4 acres
5. Not geovision or pc server based. Please advise if an nvr has any benefits when the system is primarily for live viewing eg does it have a purpose in throttling back the bandwidth in multiple cameras? Or is it principally a high end storage media?
6. Assume no existing network cabling to piggyback on
7. Assume wireless not suitable
8. Remote PTZ capabilities needed

Not looking for a quote but some direction to start developing our system. Email preferred initially, then we can talk. This is a serious inquiry.

CCTV Camera Pros responded with the following information:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros and for the opportunity to earn your business. See answers to your questions below:

1. Remote viewable
Both of these recorders are remote viewable. One is a DVR and one is an NVR:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Surveillance-DVRs-JPEG-s/93.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Network-Video-Recorder-s/299.htm

2. High quality - but balanced against bandwidth
The NVR will give you higher overall quality and yes you can throttle the bandwidth of each camera for remote viewing. The DVR does not allow you to throttle.

3. Initially 4 indoor and 4 outdoor cameras, expandable to 16, all hardwired
If you are more interested in the IP based system (NVR), then please take a look at these IP cameras:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/IP-Network-Camera-p/zavio-f210a.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/IP-PTZ-Camera-p/ip-v97111.htm

If you are more interested in the analog CCTV camera system, then take a look at these CCTV cameras:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Varifocal-Dome-Camera-p/dpro-460vf9.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/PTZ-CCTV-Camera-p/ptz-9480x10.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Outdoor-PTZ-Security-Camera-p/ptz-w470a.htm

4. Area coverage approximately 4 acres
5. Not Geovision or NUUO pc server based. Please advise if an NVR has any benefits when the system is primarily for live viewing eg does it have a purpose in throttling back the bandwidth in multiple cameras? Or is it principally a high end storage media?
We do highly recommend our NUUO PC based DVR, but we understand that some customers do not want a windows based system so we have our stand alone DVR and NVR solutions mentioned above. The main advantage of an NVR is that it uses IP cameras which are 100% digital so picture quality is better. Also it can support megapixel resolution cameras, while CCTV DVRs can only support up to 704 x 480 resolution (also known as D1 resolution).

If you change your mind and consider a PC based system, please check out these videos:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/NUUO-Surveillance-Systems-s/296.htm#videos

6. Assume no existing network cabling to piggyback on
This is fine for either solution. The CCTV system will use Siamese coax cable like this:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/RG59-Siamese-CCTV-Cable-s/259.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/CCTV-Security-Camera-Cables-s/258.htm

The IP system will use CAT-5 like this:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/CAT5E-Patch-Cable-p/cat5e-100.htm
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/CCTV-Equipment-Cable-p/cat-5-cable-1.htm

7. Assume wireless not suitable

8. Remote PTZ capabilities needed
Either system can support PTZ controls. The PTZ controls on the IP based NVR and IP cameras are easier to setup and to use. Also the remote controlling of PTZs on the IP camera system is much smoother and better responding.

Please let us know if we can help further.

Sincerely.
