If anyone is interested here is a link to a open port check tool. Which lets you know if ports are open or closed this way you know if you have port forwarding set up correctly.

vra1974,

There is a way to view your cameras on the iPhone while using the jpeg2000 stand alone DVR. You need to add a video server/encoder to each of the cameras that you wish to view. If you use the video loop out for the channel you want to view and attach the loop out to this video encoder:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Video-Encoder-p/vivotek-vs7100.htm

Then you can view the camera on the iPhone using safari or using CCTV Camera Pros FREE iphone app, the iCamViewer:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/CCTV-Camera-iPhone-App-s/362.htm

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I already read the post about the Jpeg2000 format DVR not being compatible with the Iphone. But I refuse to beleive that. Is there a way to have some kind of program to relay the data and convert it realtime to a iphone compatible client or format??

There must be a way or an Iphone App that supports these kind of DVRs!

If not, would someone be interested in this app? maybe I could program it, and sell it, how much would you pay for it?

Hey Wolverine,

I contacted Geovision and they recommended the DMMultiview Software to view your cameras without running Active X controls. You can find this software on your GeoVision Disk that came with your card or you can download from this link.

Hi James:

Thanks for the information. I really do not like to downgrade - I use the multiple view in the Webcam through internet explorer. The earlier versions are not as good. However I could not use it in my company laptop because the company laptop does not allow these activeX installations. Was hoping the TCP client software will avoid the problem. Wish Geovision can re-insert the TCP/IP server even without updates.

I do not have an iPhone yet but certainly this new feature will be very useful and allow people to view the cameras at any time.

Hey Wolverine,

Unfortunately GeoVision did away with the Remote Client software and the TCP/IP Server. The only way to get that feature you will have to downgrade your software to 8.2 or earlier. If you do choose to downgrade you will not be able to use the sweet I-Phone app as seen here http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Geovision-iPhone-Application-GV-iView-Setup-s/329.htm

I have a GV800 system with software 8.3.2. I would like to use the remote viewer software on client PCs due to the restrictions on Client PCs making web access not feasible. However, I could not find the TCP/IP in either the network menu or the system configuration menu as was shown in the Geovision Technical menu. ANybody can provide some insight why this happens.

Previously I used an earlier version of GV800 card with software 6.1 which I do not have this problem.

Gustavo,

If you are able to access on your local network but not remotely over the Internet, then most likely one of the following is the problem:

Your port forwarding is not setup correctly

Your modem has a firewall that needs to be disabled

You are using DSL with a separate router and your DSL modem is not properly bridged

To setup your port forwarding, you must know what ports your DVR uses and you can refer to these instructions:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Internet-Surveillance-Setup-s/156.htm#port-forwarding-setup

If you are using DSL and you need to find out if there is a firewall or if your DSL modem needs to be bridges to your router, you should contact your service provider.

Please let us know if we can help further.

Hi JC,
Do you think this is the only problem that i almost can not move the cams in position manually??
I have now the setting of the Pelco D, i think 2400 Baud Rate.....i must check it...
Everything is working nice, fast and smooth, also with a connection with another pc over the internet, i can manually move the cam's.
Only the manual control over WIFI connection with the Iphone, if i want to move the cam manually whit swiping the finger over the screen...it moves almost nothing....
i will try to take the setting Pelco P, and try to set another baud rate.....
Thanks for the replay...

Hi, i have got the GV-iView v2.0 perfectly working on my iphone, by wifi, or gprs connection (is slow by gprs), i have also set the settings for my 4 PTZ cams correctly configured.
When i open te PTZ menu on the Iphone, i get 4 extra tabs to use, one off them is for the PTZ PRESETS, works perfectly, by each setting the cam moves to another sposition.... the tab with the 4 arrows is for AUTO FOCUS, works also correct, but the tab with the + and - do not work to zoom in and out, when i tab these i get FORUS NEAR and FOCUS FAR....
If i tab the screen by two fingers at the same time its zooming in, and when i tab the screen with two fingers seperetly, it zooms out, is this normal???
Then my last question, if i tab the screen with one finger, i get a new menu popping up, to set he SPEED 1 to 4, this is normaly the PTZ speed for moving the PTZ cams? I set these on SPEED 4, but i can not move them manualy, when i drag one finger over the screen, i get a popup "PTZ:RIGHT", but the PTZ cam moves only 1mm, almost nothing....
can you lett me now what to do?
THX

Thank You for posting to the forum. Please note that you must forward ports 8866 and 5111 in addition to port 80 in order to use the Geovision GV-iView iPhone app. CCTV Camera Pros has successfully setup Geovision for iPhone access many times for both LAN and WAN (Internet) access using the following instructions:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Geovision-iPhone-Application-GV-iView-Setup-s/329.htm

titan1966,

Although we are not familiar with your DVR or modem / router, the concepts for setup are basically the same for any DVR to be setup for remote access. Maybe you can refer to the instructions for one of our DVRs and improvise. You will need the manual for your Thomson Speedtouch 780 WL modem to know how to setup the port forwarding. You also need to find out for sure if it is in fact a router also.

Here are instructions for one of our DVRs:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/DVR-Viewer-Connection-s/227.htm

I hope this helps.

djdeb,

The DDNS and DHCP settings do overlap between the router and the DVR. This is the case for any IP device.

Some routers, like older LinkSys models do not let you setup static IP addresses for devices on your network so you must setup the static IP address for your devices using the device itself. I am referring to internal (LAN) IP addresses right now. I recommend setting your DVRs IP address using the DVR and like you said setting it way up at the high end of your routers DHCP range.

In regards to DDNS settings, again these setting can typically be managed by your router and by each device. My preference and recommendation is to use the router to manage your DDNS settings or to download and windows client and use dyndns.org. I found once that LinkSys was contacting the DDNS service too often and they disabled my account. So I switched to using the windows client (it is a small program that is always running on a windows PC connected to your network) that they provide and I never had that problem again. The downside to this method is the PC must always be running.

Last regarding the HTTP port, some ISPs are strange about incoming requests on port 80 so you may want to change that port if it causes you trouble and you are able to.

I hope this helps.

Thanks.

Ok, so I've tried changing static ip inside dhcp range...works but then after a while it won't work anymore. When I have the ddns settings set in router and dvr, I noticed that at first the status in dvr says "ddns connection ok 14"...but when it's not working it says "ddns connection ok 2"? I have also noticed that when dvr is reset and I check the open port tool on the dyndns site it says port 80 is open and port 8841 is open, but if I go back and check port 80 again it will say "refused"? Any thoughts on this?

I may try and change to dhcp in dvr as well...and take my chances of it not changing much as it's always on, and see if that makes a difference.

I know you can change the http port, well I thought you could...but I've had no luck with that either.

thanks,

Please, I'm new in the DVR surveillance topic and need help to set up my Astak 4 cameras DVR with my Thomson Speedtouch 780 WL modem, in my home. I have a DSL internet connection. I want to see the cameras from the internet and from my Iphone. I use the dvr cd setup but this do not explain how to be connected to my modem model. I don't know if I need a router, because I think the Speedtouch is modem and router too. I can connect my laptop and Iphone via wireless to the modem. I have dynamic ip on my pc and setup dyndns to find an ip name. Does anyone know how to connect this items?
Thanks for the help!!

This makes sense...but in the DVR network settings would I leave it to static or dhcp? I am guessing static or how else would I be able to port forward if the DVR ip is changing? The router dhcp server is from 100 to 149, so I could just make it 149 and leave it static in the dvr...right?
As for the disconnects I think you may be right again, as when in the webviewer in internet explorer it doesn't seem to fully disconnect when clicking on that button.

One other question that I have found conflicting info on is that in the DVR network settings it has a ddns function that could be enabled or disabled...it is disabled as I have that function enabled on the router. But it does seem to work when both DVR and router are enabled, but doesn't work when just DVR is enabled. Any thoughts on enabling just in router or both router and DVR???

Thanks for the help and hints...this site is great!

A DVR user recently contacted CCTV Camera Pros with the following issue:

I have read a lot of good articles on this site to help me set up my stand-alone triplex 8ch dvr for remote viewing, but still have one minor issue that I can't seem to get any help on. I have the dvr and a linksys router with time warner cable modem. The router is configured to auto IP (needs to be for cable) so I have a dyndns host. I use the port forwarding in the router to forward ports to my dvr and enabled ddns. The dvr is assigned a static IP outside of the dhcp range in the router for my home network. Everything seems to work fine, I can connect internally and externally...except after I connect externally the dvr has to be power
cycled to reboot before the remote view works again. This is really confusing to me, and any suggestions you have to help me are appreciated!

CCTV Camera Pros Response:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. That is a strange issue that you described but we do have a suggestion and some insight.

[list=1]
In my experience some routers act strange when you assign devices IP addresses outside of the DHCP server range and also assign port forwarding rules to that IP address. You may want to try an IP address within the range but very high in the range so there is never a conflict.

Some DVRs are not very good at handling abrupt disconnects / connection drops. So if by chance you are leaving that connection open when it is not in use and not closing it and your connection is lost, your DVR may think that connection is still open and will not allow another connection. When you reboot the DVR this may be being reset. This is just a theory based on experience with some DVRs that we have seen. Our JPEG DVR sometimes has this problem.

I hope this info is helpful. Please let us know if you need anything else.

Sincerely.

Please follow these instructions to access the CCTV cameras connected to your DVR from your iphone:

Open the Safari web browser from your iPhone

Open the following web page: http://www.idvrviewer.com

Enter your DVRs hostname or IP address, the default port is 7000

Click the login button

You must access your DVR through that website at this time. We are in the process of developing the iDVR iPhone application which will be an actual iPhone app that will save all of these setting for you. This is scheduled to be completed and available in the app store within this month.

I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble. If your remote internet access to your DVR is working locally on your LAN as you described but not working remotely over the Internet, then the problem is with your port forwarding and firewall preventing you from accessing from the Internet.

Please follow these instructions step by step:

Alex,

If it is our H.264 4 channel digital video recorder then you can follow these remote camera monitoring instructions.

The ports that you mention are not the ones for that model DVR, so I think you are using something else. Whether you are using ours or another manufacturer's DVR, here are a few pointers:

Get local connectivity working first with the LAN IP address. ( you already did this )

Make absolutely sure about which port(s) your DVR is using and require port forwarding.

Make sure you know your WAN / Internet IP address on the network where your DVR is located by running this tool from a computer on the same network with your DVR: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Get-IP-Address-s/174.htm

If you are still stuck, when trying to connect using the WAN IP address while on the same network as the DVR, try from a different network

DO NOT try accessing from your dyndns hostname until you have successfully connected using the Internet IP address directly first (to make sure the problem is not with the dynamic dns service).

I was given the job of setting up a dvr to view over the internet. DVR model H264 router D-Link DIR-825. I did this once and it worked but the dvr had to be replace and now I cannot get it to work.
I can see it local but no internet, the steps that I follow are:
Set up the dvr as static:
ip:192.168.000.102
gateway: 192.168.000.001
subnet mask: 255.255.255.000
dns: 192.168.000.001
set up the router to:
under advanced > virtual server I port forwarded port 80 9091 9092 which are the defaults from my dvr.
I also set up an account with dyndns and added to the router as: name.dyndns.org.
And I reserved the ip aswell.

thanks in advanced.

I have down loaded the GV-iView app on my iphone. I am using linksys router with port forwarding set up for various ports, 81,80,8866,5511,4550,5550,3550. I can access remotely from other computers, however when I use the app on the iphone it tries to connect but will, after about 5 to 10 seconds, give me a message that the "connectin failed". I have tried using all the various ports but still no luck.
Can anyone help.
Thanks,
Bill
PS I have also performed items 1,2,3 and 4 on the Geovision iPhone setup.

Does anyone have all the steps or a good site on how to get this done using Geovision SW and Linksys router.
I have static ip on my dvr workstation. I've setup dyndns.
From my browser at work, it seems as though I have gotten through my router to the dvr workstation. I can actually see the computer name in the corner window of my browser, however I am not able to view my cameras

Here is a link to Geovision version 8.31 download:
http://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/v8.31.zip

That is the full 8.31 DVD so it is quite a large file to download. Included on the DVD is the Geovision center V2 software. Here is a link to the Geovision Center V2 setup instructions.

mhoeft,

CCTV Camera Pros typically recommends using the webcam server built into Geovision for remote viewing. You can find setup instructions on our website here:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Geovision-WebCam-Server-Setup-s/124.htm

If you want to view cameras from multiple systems on one screen, then you need to use the center V2 software that should have come with your systems. If they did not, you should contact the distributor that you bought those systems from. If they can not help you, please let me know and I will do my best to get this software to you.

Thank You for using the forum.

Sincerely.

Hello, my agency recently acquired three stand-alone GeoVision systems. What is the best method of viewing the cameras from all three of those servers, live on one computer/pc?
I was not able to locate V2 or any other multi-view type software on the CD that was delivered with each system.
We currently use a dedicated laptop with WAN, LAN or internet connectivity to view each system. This gets kind of tedious and takes up a lot of room in the operations center.
Thanks

leonardoq,

Thank you for posting your question. coax surge protectors are actually recommended to be placed on both ends of your cable run (camera & recorder ends). We offer this CCTV coax video surge protector.

We also carry one that protects both the coax and power cable, but it is not yet on the website. If you need help with it, please give us a call on Monday at 888-849-2288.

Thanks.

I've got an installation of a outdoor security camera with coax for the video signal and STP (shielded twisted pair) for the 12VDC power. To protect from lightning strikes I have grounded the coax shield and power cable shield to a grounding plate before coming indoors. What can I do to protect the power supply from an incoming surge on the power lines coming in to my house? The transient surge suppressors I see are geared toward protecting the equipment end from a surge at the main power but not from incoming surges from lightning. Any one familiar with products that protect from that end and what they are called?

I have changed the bitrates and advised them to always "diconnect" hopefully this will help. Is there a way to check the firmware from a remote location? I don't want to drive all the way up to this location just for that... and telling them to do it will not be easy...

gagan,

Please let me know what you mean by languages specifications. There is no programming involved if that is what you are referring to. Please take a look at this article which reviews one possible implementation with wireless equipment for CCTV cameras.

Wireless security camera system installation

Please note that the easiest way to deploy a wireless surveillance system is by using IP cameras.

Please post any follow up questions on this forum.
