We recently installed (10) Direct connect color outdoor dome cameras. The specs are:
1/3" Sony super had ccd
560TV lines
NTSC/DUAL
DC auto iris varifocal lens 2.8-12mm

The image looks terrible at night and has some sort of haze in the center of the image. We have done at least 150 of these cameras before with no issues.

We replaced them once already and the manufacturer has no idea what is going on.

Below are step by step instructions to setup your DVR or IP Camera for remote viewing.

1.) First Make sure your DVR or IP Camera support remote viewing

2.) Second you need to obtian the ip address and the port of your DVR or IP camera. Typically you can find this under network within the system menu of your DVR or IP camera.

3.) Once you have the ip address and port info for your camera log into your router. Now click this link and find the port forwarding instructions that correspond with your routerhttp://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Internet-Surveillance-Setup-s/156.htm

4.) Now that you have the port forwarding setup, go to this web page http://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/check-open-port-forwarding-tool. Check and make sure port 80 is open.

5.) Take the ip address you get from the open port tool and type that into your web browser or Client software.

Hi experts,
I would like to get your opinion and recommendation about a good PTZ camera.
1st major requirement is to be able to move smoothly and continuously between several pre recorded presets. i.e. I would like to capture 3 points, then let the camera move from P1, to P2, to P3 with a defined speed and acceleration.

2nd most important requirement is to adjust to speed and location/zoom changes: for example, to be able to control the camera (by code, not interactively), to move to points "near" the recorded points (e.g. 1 deg left from P1 with speed that is x1.2 faster than the recorded speed).

All is done via code, except first points capturing.

I found out that Axis Communication and Sony cameras cannot do it - both force delays and stop when reaching P1, P2, P3.

Any idea if there are other brands that may support mentioned requirements?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi guys,

I'm setting up remote viewing for a friend and I don't have any problems setting up a static PRIVATE Ip address within his private network, doing the port forwarding, etc. What I'm wondering is, for REMOTE viewing, do I need to LEASE a static IP from the ISP?

As far as I know, if the IP address renews itself (on the ISP side) and changes, then we will not be able to view the cameras remotely. Any ideas?

I was thinking of a workaround for this, if it is so, but if you guys have better ones, PLEASE let me know :)

My workaround: Setup a static ip within the private network, have the cameras being viewed from a computer ON THE PRIVATE NETWORK. Use LogMeIn to access that computer from OUTSIDE the network to view the cameras THROUGH that computer.

Thanks

Hello,

Please see the below instructions on how to configure Port Forwarding rules on your SMC8014WN router / gateway.

1.) Open a web browser and type http://192.168.0.1 in the URL. [User name: cusadmin Password: password]

2.) Click the NAT button over to the left. Now you should see the Port Forwarding option. Please click / select.

3.)Now you will need to fill in the blanks.

Name: This is just for your reference this can be anything.
Type: This depends on your DVR / Camera / Equipment. Typically this is TCP
LAN Server IP: This is going to be the device you are wanting to access remotely IP address [DVR , Cameras ETC.]
Remote IPs: Set to Any
Public IP Ports: Single
Start Public Port: Port # your equipment [DVR , Cameras ETC.]
Start Public Port: Port # your equipment [DVR , Cameras ETC.] Same as above.

4.)Now Press the Apply button [If you have multiple ports repeat step 3 as needed]

5.)Now lets check and make sure the port is open. Go to http://dvrport.net. [This needs to be done while onsite with the equipment]

-Leave the IP address, dvrport.net will automatically fill this in with the correct Remote IP Address.
-In the Enter Port To Scan section type the port # in you are trying to open.
-Press the Scan button.

6.) If the port is open you will use the Remote IP Address you get from the http://yougetsignal.com. However you will need to type it in as follows via web browser http://ipaddress:port number, eg. if your ip address is 74.96.36.98 than it should look like this when you type it into your web browser http://74.96.36.98:8000.

Hello all.

I'm having trouble configuring a DVR for remote viewing. I'm not exactly sure what to put in the network fields in the DVRs configuration menu. This is what I have:

IP ADDRESS: 71.242.244.103
SUBNET MASK: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY: 192.168.1.1 -OR- 71.242.244.1
DNS: 192.168.1.15 -OR- 71.242.0.12

My ISP provided me with a static ip address, it's default gateway, and it's DNS Primary/Secondary.

My DVR is connected via ethernet to a modem/router combo and I'm not sure what I should put in the fields above in order to access it over WAN. I'm mostly concerned with what to put in the GATEWAY and DNS fields.

I also read up that I should assign a local ip address to my dvr (disable DHCP) for when I forward the ports needed (3100 and 9000) no errors will occur later on. However, even though my DVR is hooked up to my router it does not come up as a connected device.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

A cell phone jammer is a device that emits signals in the same frequency range that cell phones use, effectively blocking their transmissions by creating strong interference. The phone will simply indicate poor reception strength. It is a good product to help the people block the mobile signals within a certain range relying on the capacity of the device. And it is very useful with a main function to control the phone signals for people.

Nowadays, the cell jammers are widely used in people's life. The device can be used for many places where the peaceful environment is desired. For the commercial business, they can use it for their important conference. We can confirm that it can avoid the accidents because there is someone forgetting to switch off their mobile phone.

They can help people enjoy a kind of self-peace and keep safe for them. There are a large variety of phone jammers on the market and different cell phone jammers have different usages. The cell phone jammers specially designed for military are very large with high power feature. Some of the cell phone jammers can interfere with the working of the GPS; we also called this kind of jammer GPS jammer. Of course, there are cell phone jammers which can be used to block the signals of WIFI and others.

You can have a cell jammer as it is the best way to keep peace around you.

Hello,

Please see below setup instructions on how to setup Port Forwarding on a ZyXEL Router.

1.) Open a web browser and type in http://192.168.1.1

2.) It will prompt you for the username and password. By default Username: admin Password: 1234

3.) Now Click on the NAT link.

4.)There should be a dot in the SUA Only setting. If this isn't the case, you can not setup port forwarding without making a major change to your network. I wouldn't advise changing this unless you know what you are doing. Alright, if there is a dot in the SUA Only setting, go ahead and click Edit Details.

5.) Now fill in the following info:

Start Port: The port # of your Camera/DVR
End Port: Same as start port
IP Address: The LAN [internal IP address] IP address for your Camera/DVR

6.) When you're finished, click Save near the bottom of the screen to save your changes

7.) Now make sure the port is open with the following open port forwarding checker tool: http://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/check-open-port-forwarding-tool

NOTE: If the port is open you will use the Remote IP Address you get from the open port tool that you used above. However you will need to type it in as follows via web browser http://ipaddress:port number, eg. if your ip address is 74.96.36.98 than it should look like this when you type it into your web browser http://74.96.36.98:8000.

I bought a cheap unbranded wireless IP cam from eBay, from China. It works okay basically but in a limited way. The biggest problem is management software.

I would like to buy more of them. But I need to control them.

They provide software called 'Collect Client' in your WinXP Program List and 'Pc Camera Control Centre' when it is opened.

With this I should be able to control up to 32 cameras at once. See them all onscreen. Do all sorts of things. But I can't even get it to see my one single wireless IP, nor any of the simple webcams attached to my Lan.

Looking around I think it is probably a Foscam F18918W or clone of it. That's what it looks like. You can google them and see plenty of them.

And when I go to look at it from the internet (as distinct from looking at it from within my Lan, which works fine, using its local IP and port number) I reach it okay and get the menu which allows selecting from three modes of operation - one for IE, one for such as Firefox and one for mobile phones. But whichever I select I fail to get a picture.

Which I think is pretty shabby because I can get a perfect streamed video picture of a cheap little webcam via Yawcam set up on the Lan from my mobile phone, my cellphone. All I have to do is enter my external IP number and the port number for the streaming video from that cellphone and bingo... an IP camera.

So it strikes me as something I shouldn't tolerate in future purchases, not being able to see a video from these more ambitious kind of cameras.

Anyway, there it is, guys.

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me with:

1. Software (preferably freeware) I can use to manage this particular Wireless IP cam (and future ones).

2. Any info/advice anyone has on why I can't see this thing on my cell. I think it is perfectly well available to the web on pc's. I haven't got one (off my lan) to test with. You can test if you like. It should be at 203.171.115.83:99

3. Any info/advice anyone might have about this particular cam. What brand is it? Where can I find a manual that is better than the thing they provided? Like how am I to use the audio plug there in the front? Plug what in? Just any old microphone?

regards,

1.) Log into Comcast router by typing http://10.1.10.1 in your web browser. [ By default the Username: cusadmin Password: highspeed]

2.) Once you are logged into the Comcast router go to Firewall > Port Configuration > Press "Add New" Button

2a.) Fill in the following:

Application Name: Whatever you like.
Port Range: Port number of DVR /camera [If you have multiple DVR/cameras you will need to make a separate rule for each camera. Each device will need a unique port number. Cannot have multiple devices with the same port number]
Protocol: Both
IP Address: The IP address of your DVR / Camera

NOTE: If your DVR/Camera is using port 80 you will want to change this to another port since Comcast does not like port 80.

Apply settings.

3.) Now make sure the port is open http://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/check-open-port-forwarding-tool

However you will need to type it in as follows via web browser http://ipaddress:port number, [eg. if your ip address is 74.96.36.98 and your port is 8000 than it should look like this when you type it into your web browser http://74.96.36.98:8000.

this is my last ditch effort to try to get the cheap China made system to work and I know I'm close. I can access my surveillance system using LAN IP address. But when I'm on my neighbors wireless network and I try to access it using WAN IP address it gets to video login screen and I don't have an password set up yet and hit OK, it just says cannot find device. In the LAN IP address I get that login screen and hit ok and brings my 4 cameras right up. I have Time Warner as my internet provider and they only offer a dynamic IP address so I've set up an free account with DYNDNS and have set all of that up with my Linksys router. I've been trying to get this to work for over a month and even had a security system guy out to my house yesterday and he just said the same thing, that I am close but he didn't know why it couldn't find the device. My port forwarding is set up as 80 (the suggested default my dvr instruction say to put it at). Please provide me with any advice or things to try before I throw it in the garbage.

I have just set up a 4 video DVR, and can access it from my laptop when I am on the same network, and the video streams fine. However, from a different network, when I log in, I get a picture from the cameras which then does not change. The time log in the top corner of each camera stays static. If I check that the port is open (port 8080), on http://www.canyouseeme.org, it is open. I did look at a tutorial on youtube, and they said to also forward port 2000 as it is the data port.... however my router will not allow this (motorola netopia) Any ideas?
Thanks
The HTTP and RTSP ports are configured correctly. He can view video on the laptop if he wired direct to a router in his home, or connected wirelessly. However when he uses the turbo stick away from home he cannot see any video. He hits the DVR, logs in and get the DVR page. However all camera screens are black, almost the same as you would get if the RTSP port wasn't configured. However, there is no error message. Any ideas?

I am trying to set up a H.264 DVR to be accessable from the internet by going through a Linksys Router, then the phone company's Speedstream modem.
I have set up the DVR to use DYNDNS.ORG with a "DYNDNS static" setting. Gateway and DNS fields on the DVR are zeros.
The remote's software uses the IP from the DVR, the gateway is the Speedstream's internal access IP, the DNS is probably from DYNDNS.ORG.
On the Linksys:I have forwarded ports 80, 67, and 68. I did not set up ddns there.
On the Speedstream: I setup DYNDNS.ORG and forwarded port 80, but cannot set up ports 67 and 68.
Net problem: I can access the system from inhouse via the linksys, but cannot access from outside (the internet.) Can anyone offer help?

Aslo, do I need to put the DYNDNS updater on a PC at the DVR site or does teh software from the DVR automatically update since it has teh userid, password and URL set up at DYNDNS.ORG?

A customer called today because any time he has a power outage and his surveillance system reboots, he looses the remote connection to his DVR. CCTV Camera Pros suggested the following:

If your Internet connection uses a dynamic IP address, you must make sure that you setup a dynamic DNS service to keep track of and update your IP address when it changes.

You must assign your DVR a static internal LAN IP address so that when your router reboots, the DVR always gets the same IP address assigned to it and ensures that your port forwarding rules assigned to that IP are always valid.

I have CMS lite software V1.3.8.0 installed on my desktop. It was working fine. A few days ago it started showing blank screens for the cameras. I can still go to file...setup and connect to the dvr, and I can do remote search and view recorded imagery. Just the live part does not work.

Everything works fine using the same software on my laptop.

I want to try to re-install the software, but I cannot find the disk. Is there a link to download the CMS lite program?

Each works well localls and remotely with the software they came with. Neither seems to be able to do both.

I am new at this so please let me know if I am on a dead end. Is there a software package that is more flexible?

I use W7 so my version of central mgt crashes.

I reviewed one camera for about 20 minutes, I was using the jog/shuttle to and using the mouse to move along the bar to go forward and reverse. I had the camera on pause. When I resumed playing, the time stamp was gone. Now I have a time stamp in real time, but not when I am reviewing recorded video. What did I do? How do I get the time stamp back?

Hello there.

I have one question and I was hoping someone in here could help me.

I work in a company where we have more than 40 cameras installed. The security team only needs to look at 16 live streams. These 16 streams are divided in three DVRs which have 3 different IPs. We are trying to find a software solution that will bring these 16 mini screens in a monitor and offer some usability like doubleclicking a camera and watching it in a bigger window, etc.

A software that fits exactly our needs is Heitel's Cam Control MV and this is the type of software we are looking for, but it is quite expensive and I would like to present some alternative solutions.

Any helpful feedback is much appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your answers.

There are many photographers in the world. Most people think a photographer can do whatever they want and go everywhere they like, just be armed with a spy camera and taking photos, they can record the most wonderful instant that happened around them. but besides selecting and doing Photoshop, do you know what are they shooting? They shoot their own dreams and the dreams of others.
Michael Wolf is A Germany photographer, he shoot a lot of pictures, and one of them named “Tokyo Subway Dreams” which won the First Prize of Daily Life in 2010 World Press Photo.
These photos are all taken in 2009, he aimed at reflecting people’s live, especially citizens. All these photos represented different facial expression and the crowd scene in the subway. There are young and old, men and women, all represented in the photos. Just imagine, in a big city like Tokyo, a large majority of people ride subways go to or back from work, plus the bad traffic jams in the peak time, how crowd the subway will be. Every morning, there are one million people need to be send from this side of the city to the other side. Some look nervous, some is dozing off, even in the limited and crowd space. But they all hold their own dreams.
Someone has said when you’re appreciating the scenery, there is always some others appreciating you. Yes, in the photo there is a boy who is taking pictures with his spy camera, he looks like a student. Maybe he thought this kind of crowd scenery should be taken to make others think about something. Maybe he just wanted to try his camera. No matter what he thought, he, at that time, was the leading role in the picture.
There were stars or the stars in the future, but what did they do at that time? They need to bear this kind of life and persist on their dreams. Maybe now he is the leading role of himself, in the coming future he will be the leading role of many fans and cameras from all directions. At that time, he can ride his own car to work and take photos of others with his spy camera. He won’t need to bear the crowd, but he should bear other pressures while holding the next dream of his life.
All in all, life is hard. We need to take many responsibilities and face many pressures, but we should hold a dream in our heart. God will never help a man who never acts. Do everything you can to be closer to your dream every day, one day you will realize it.

A quick reset seems to get it up and running again though. It doesn't seem to be that the harddrive is full because looking at the status, it constantly clears up space as it records as it should. Anyone know why it's doing this? Thanks.

A family member asked I help spec out a remote security camera setup in a rural vacation home. No broadband is available, so we're thinking a Verison 3G mobile hotspot, connected to a router, then to an iDVR (still debating how many cameras might be needed, but likely either 4 or 8, no more). I'm wondering whether the 3G connection can handle the bandwidth. Anything else we should be thinking about? Thanks!

8.) If you have DSL for you internet service you will need to call your provider and have them bridge the modem to the router. This is a standard process.

Hi i have a cp cam 4ch h 264 dvr and it is connected to the internet and the guy who hooked it up said if i disconnect it from the internet it will mess up, i want to disconnect it because it is slowing down my net speed so i want to disconnect it when im using the computer and reconnect it when im not by simply unplugging it from the router and re plugging it in. I have done this in the past and somehow the dvr got messed, the cams are shown on a separate monitor and the picture started to freez etc.. now we got a new one the same type and its eating my internet and is pissing me off so i want to unplug it from the net again. my question is why does it mess up if i unplug it from the net?? and how can i unplug it safely.. Please answer thanks for your time.

There must be a way or an Iphone App that supports these kind of DVRs!

If not, would someone be interested in this app? maybe I could program it, and sell it, how much would you pay for it?

A customer contacted CCTV Camera Pros today and asked the following question related to remote video surveillance over a 3G Internet connection:

I am the manager of a construction company and we would like to remotely monitor construction sites using surveillance cameras. We specifically would like to use a PTZ camera to monitor a remote location. There is no Internet connection available at these sites, so we were wondering if there is a way to make the connection using a Verizon 3G or Sprint 3G card.

CCTV Camera Pros response:

Yes it is possible to set a remote 3G Internet connection to use with surveillance cameras for remote viewing. You need to contact Verizon to see if they have 3G service in the area where the cameras will be located. If they do, confirm with them that you can get a 3G card from them that is compatible with the LinkSys WRT54G3G-VN wireless broadband router. You can find pricing here on the LinkSys WRT54G3G-VN.

Once you have your 3G connection established, with the router, you can connect an IP camera to the router using a CAT-5 cable. For your application, you can use this Vivotek SD7113 IP PTZ camera.

To enable remote access to the PTZ camera, you need to setup port forwarding. Here you can find port forwarding instructions for linksys routers.

Hey, I have a very simple scurity camera system installed at my home (in hinesight I should have researched further for remote viewing, but its here now) Its an SVAT CVQ1000, in my babies room, and on the corners of my home. The only video output it has is a yellow composite video plug that I have running into our TV in the bedroom, its good for seeing whats going on there, but I would like to see if its posible to split that signal, run in into a PC and then broadcast that over the internet. I just bought and tried the new iCam for iphone, it works great on my laptops webcam, im hoping I can get the CVQ1000 video signal inputed to my computer and use that on the iCam server.

Is there a composite video to USB converter (or something that I can use to send that signal to my PC) and then have a software program that can correctly view that signal and hopefully send it to iCam? I was kinda hoping there might even be a stand alone DVR that would just record and have a running re-record (overwrite) ability that would except composite video, but with this iCam ability, I could view the cameras in real time all over the world (I work internationally quite often)

Any ideas or tips?

A customer recently contacted CCTV Camera Pros with the following questions:

We are looking for security camera system that we can use to monitor scattered distant sites at any one given time without any limitation. How can we view multiple security cameras at different locations from one central monitoring station / computer?

For example Telecommunication sites scattered all over the country , at any given time we should be able to see live pictures of what is on site even at night .

Please let me know if you have this kind of system.

CCTV Camera Pros responded with the following:

Yes, CCTV Camera Pros has surveillance systems that can monitor multiple locations at the same time. Please take a look at these two options.

This is a stand alone embedded DVR that can fulfill your requirements:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/H264-Stand-Alone-DVRs-s/358.htm

This is a PC based DVR that can monitor mutiple locations centrally:

Both of these systems come with a central monitoring software package that allows you to view multiple locations from a single computer that has the software installed.

The following outdoor infrared cameras are excellent choices for low light and zero light situations:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Outdoor-CCTV-Camera-p/bipro-s600vf12.htm

These cameras have been used in high end residential, commercial, and government security installations. We highly recommend them as a few of the best IR security cameras on the market.

This surveillance forum post walks users through basic steps for setting up and trouble shooting remote viewing setup for surveillance DVRs.

Most DVR's are very similar when setting up remote viewing. The 1st step is enabling your remote viewing server. It may also be referred to as web server or webcam server. The term will vary depending on the manufacturer of the DVR that you are setting up. This step may not apply for all DVR's, I noticed this applies more with PC Based DVR's.

Once you have the web server enabled you will need to get the LAN (Local Area Network) IP Address for your DVR. If you have a PC Based DVR you can retrieve your IP Address by simply going to Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. Once you have the Command Prompt window open type in ipconfig and press enter. That will give you your ip address. For stand alone DVR's you can find your LAN ip address by logging into your router and viewing the attached devices or in the network settings in your DVR. It may not be referred to as network setup the terminology may be a bit different you may want to open up your DVR Manual to check, I promise it wont bite.

Now that you have your LAN IP Address. We are going to try to connect to the DVR locally in other words with a pc on the same network as your DVR. Some DVR's require a client to be installed on the pc you are trying to connect from. Others allow you to connect using Internet Explorer. If you are trying to log in via internet explorer and your DVR is not using port 80 you will need to type your ip address like this http://ipaddress:port # so if my ip address is 192.168.1.100 and port number is 7000 It should look like this http://192.168.1.100:7000. If your default port is 80 you can just simply type the ip address in this case it would look like this 192.168.1.100

Once you have connected locally with your LAN IP Address you will need to setup port forwarding. This will forward the port for your DVR to the Internet so you can view it remotely. Here is a link to the port forwarding setup of some commonly used routers http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Internet-Surveillance-Setup-s/156.htm. Also if your router has any firewalls that may block the transmission of the video you will need to disable that firewall.

The last step is to get your WAN (Wide Area Network) IP Address you can do this by going to this website on a computer local to your dvr http://dvripaddress.com This website will display your ip address.Try to connect using this IP Address If you cannot connect using that ip address this means the ports are not open you can check using this useful tool http://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/check-open-port-forwarding-tool. If you have DSL Service with a modem that is separate from the router call your internet service provider and tell them you need to bridge the modem to the router and take down any firewalls blocking the ports that you have forwarded. Also if you have DSL in most cases you will not be able to connect with that ip address while you are still in the local network.

You should be all setup if you have any questions please feel free to post.

CCTV Camera Pros Response:
Yes our Alnet systems will work through Safari,Firefox and other browsers that do not use active x controls.Because Alnet systems do not rely on Active X controls, Alnet surveillance systems are Mac compatible for live remote viewing. Alnet systems use Java for live remote viewing which is built into Leopard and Snow Leopard Mac operating systems. As long as your computer has the latest version of Java installed, you can access Alnet systems remotely over the internet from a your computer. You can contact CCTV Camera Pros for additional info and demo.

Hello,

I am having trouble accessing the Camera feed unless I am at home on my own network. The camera is set up for wireless use and functions great at home. I can use Safari 4 in 32 bit mode and access the video. Also, my iphone works great as long as it is using my WiFi. As soon as it switches to 3G when I leave the house it will no longer function. I tried both using Safari and Icam Viewer. I am sure there is something I need to do to allow internet access but can not figure it out. Any advice would be much appreciated. I was also hoping to be able to give an IP address to my Mom in Cincinnati so she could peek in on the Grandkids.

I want to use Linux machine for viewing video remotely. We have JPEG2000 DVR. Any interesting sollutions available for Linux?
I want to install Mandriva server and let users log on remotely (from WAN) using NX client due to poor upload. As they are connected to the server they can watch video in LAN, I mean the internet connection is not overloaded as the whole traffic from DVR to server goes via LAN only. Windows server (2003 or 2008) is not worth the trouble for cameras only.

Hi, i have got the GV-iView v2.0 perfectly working on my iphone, by wifi, or gprs connection (is slow by gprs), i have also set the settings for my 4 PTZ cams correctly configured.
When i open te PTZ menu on the Iphone, i get 4 extra tabs to use, one off them is for the PTZ PRESETS, works perfectly, by each setting the cam moves to another sposition.... the tab with the 4 arrows is for AUTO FOCUS, works also correct, but the tab with the + and - do not work to zoom in and out, when i tab these i get FORUS NEAR and FOCUS FAR....
If i tab the screen by two fingers at the same time its zooming in, and when i tab the screen with two fingers seperetly, it zooms out, is this normal???
Then my last question, if i tab the screen with one finger, i get a new menu popping up, to set he SPEED 1 to 4, this is normaly the PTZ speed for moving the PTZ cams?

Please, I'm new in the DVR surveillance topic and need help to set up my Astak 4 cameras DVR with my Thomson Speedtouch 780 WL modem, in my home. I have a DSL internet connection. I want to see the cameras from the internet and from my Iphone. I use the dvr cd setup but this do not explain how to be connected to my modem model. I don't know if I need a router, because I think the Speedtouch is modem and router too. I can connect my laptop and Iphone via wireless to the modem. I have dynamic ip on my pc and setup dyndns to find an ip name. Does anyone know how to connect this items?
Thanks for the help!!

A DVR user recently contacted CCTV Camera Pros with the following issue:

I have read a lot of good articles on this site to help me set up my stand-alone triplex 8ch dvr for remote viewing, but still have one minor issue that I can't seem to get any help on. I have the dvr and a linksys router with time warner cable modem. The router is configured to auto IP (needs to be for cable) so I have a dyndns host. I use the port forwarding in the router to forward ports to my dvr and enabled ddns. The dvr is assigned a static IP outside of the dhcp range in the router for my home network. Everything seems to work fine, I can connect internally and externally...except after I connect externally the dvr has to be power
cycled to reboot before the remote view works again. This is really confusing to me, and any suggestions you have to help me are appreciated!

CCTV Camera Pros Response:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. That is a strange issue that you described but we do have a suggestion and some insight.

[list=1]
In my experience some routers act strange when you assign devices IP addresses outside of the DHCP server range and also assign port forwarding rules to that IP address. You may want to try an IP address within the range but very high in the range so there is never a conflict.

Some DVRs are not very good at handling abrupt disconnects / connection drops. So if by chance you are leaving that connection open when it is not in use and not closing it and your connection is lost, your DVR may think that connection is still open and will not allow another connection. When you reboot the DVR this may be being reset. This is just a theory based on experience with some DVRs that we have seen. Our JPEG DVR sometimes has this problem.

I hope this info is helpful. Please let us know if you need anything else.

Sincerely.
-Mike

I was given the job of setting up a dvr to view over the internet. DVR model H264 router D-Link DIR-825. I did this once and it worked but the dvr had to be replace and now I cannot get it to work.
I can see it local but no internet, the steps that I follow are:
Set up the dvr as static:
ip:192.168.000.102
gateway: 192.168.000.001
subnet mask: 255.255.255.000
dns: 192.168.000.001
set up the router to:
under advanced > virtual server I port forwarded port 80 9091 9092 which are the defaults from my dvr.
I also set up an account with dyndns and added to the router as: name.dyndns.org.
And I reserved the ip aswell.

thanks in advanced.

Hello, my agency recently acquired three stand-alone GeoVision systems. What is the best method of viewing the cameras from all three of those servers, live on one computer/pc?
I was not able to locate V2 or any other multi-view type software on the CD that was delivered with each system.
We currently use a dedicated laptop with WAN, LAN or internet connectivity to view each system. This gets kind of tedious and takes up a lot of room in the operations center.
Thanks

I've got an installation of a outdoor security camera with coax for the video signal and STP (shielded twisted pair) for the 12VDC power. To protect from lightning strikes I have grounded the coax shield and power cable shield to a grounding plate before coming indoors. What can I do to protect the power supply from an incoming surge on the power lines coming in to my house? The transient surge suppressors I see are geared toward protecting the equipment end from a surge at the main power but not from incoming surges from lightning. Any one familiar with products that protect from that end and what they are called?

Hi to all,

I have this problem in setting up webcam server on geovision. I tried all settings and config by searching steps on the internet but i can't still access successfully my webcams through internet.
this what i done already
1. i am using DLINK DIR-300 router and GEOVISION 650 16 camera capable. i followed the instruction on setting up port forwarding, i done putting port 80,21,4550,5550 in my list of ports to forward and all have the same ip address that targets the cctv computer on office local network.
2. i installed version 8.3 of geovision main system
3. i already done ddns by registering at dlinkddns.com and use it to map the routers IP address. because i don't have static ip but i have 700 kpbs puls speed ADSL at ppoe connection.
4. since i think DDNS is nothing to be the issue i just disabled ddns on my router and do a lot of testing by typing only my routers IP Address(from ISP) not dhcp address.
5. I followed the configuration steps by starting webcam server on configure-general settings and system configure by checking webcam server. i also done going to network-webcam server and at general settings tab i check enable remote control and checked the ports on server tab(they all have 80,4550,5550 repectively and check run GEOHTTP SERVER.

after all this settings etc. i tried to access it on my local network by typing the local ip address of the cctv computer and it successfully log to geovision login and it did show me the camera footage successfully but when i tried to access it over the internet using routers ip address(isp not local address) the page loads too slow and it did not go through geovision page. i don't know the problem although there are other computers accessing internet through our router but i disconnect them and tried only cctv computer but still no luck. well appreciate a help to all of you tnx.

Do I just telnet into it using the MAC address listed on the back of the DVR unit?
