Some Zavio IP camera models have built in surveillance microphones. In order to enable remote monitoring of the audio surveillance on Zavio IP cameras, you must enable the speaker output when you access your camera through a web browser. [Audio is currently only supported using IE web Browser]

First, login to your IP camera from a web browser as you normally do to access your camera.

Next, look in the lower right hand corner of the live view screen and make sure that you un-mute the audio. You can see the mute button cirlced in red below.

Hello,

GeoVision has released a new version 8.5 of GV-DVR/NVR and CMS. This new version 8.5 also supports Windows 7 32-bit/64-bit as in previous versions. The GV-NVR version 8.5 supports Intel Sandy Bridge GPU and enhances HD video decoding, along with the new features as below.

The fisheye object tracking function enables blind-spot-free tracking to get a closer view of moving objects.

The wide angle lens de-warping function provides non-distortion video for normal wide angle lenses, and thus saves the cost from adopting expansive non-distortion wide angle lens.

The face mosaic function blurs the faces when a video is played back for privacy concern.

The intrusion function is added with depth setting so that any object in different distance can be identified accordingly.

The newly-added option of ignore-environment-change is used to decrease environmental motion alarms such as rain, snow, waves, or the moving leaves in the trees.

With its multi-screen function, the version 8.5 CMS application can support up to 16 monitors which enable video wall solutions for control rooms displays.

GeoVision has also released a PCI-E interfaced video capture card GV-900A. The GV-900A is the first GeoVision video capture card that supports a maximum of 32 channels video recording in a single card. It features a total of 240fps at D1 resolution when running on 8 video channels.

Another eye-catching NVR solution from GeoVision is the GV-Recording Server for 128 channels of IP video recording. The GV-Recording Server, which supports ONVIF, PSIA and RTSP protocols, is designed for large-scale installations or multi-site deployments.

A customer contacted CCTV Camera Pros with the following question:

Please provide information about your products. I recently bought an iphone and an ipad. My hope is to buy a security cameras for my house and car. I want to keep video surveillance on these areas. I will be VERY close to the cameras, within 10-20 feet at all times.

My hope is to find a camera that will transmit a WiFi signal directly to the iphone without the use of a router.

Below are parts of your ad about the Zavio F210A IP Camera. The ad says that you can watch this camera directly from the Safari web browser. Please give me your best advise.

CCTV Camera Pros provided the following response to the customer:

Thank You for contacting CCTV Camera Pros. Unfortunately, you will need a wireless router in order to view the cameras from your iPhone. There is no way that I know of to connect a device directly to the iPhone (peer to peer) unless you use Bluetooth technology, and there are no security cameras on the market that I know of that use Bluetooth.

The Zavio F210A IP camera would need to be connected with an Ethernet cable to your wireless router, then your iPhone connects to that router over the wireless port. You could then view the camera video and control the settings of the camera through the Safari web browser app or you could view the security camera live using our iCamViewer iPhone app:
http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/CCTV-Camera-iPhone-App-s/362.htm

It would work the same way for all IP security cameras available. Please let us know if we can help further.

Follow up questions from the customer:

I appreciate your reply. Your answer means that ALL cameras need a router to interface with the an iphone or ipad. But, wireless cameras means "no wire", and therefore this type does not need an Ethernet cable; right ?

My project is to put a back-up camera in my older Prius. I hope to use my ipad as the monitor or view screen. In order to increase my angle of view, I was hoping to put in two or three different cameras aimed out the back. What is your suggestion for a working system? The cameras will need night vision. The cameras and router will need to be fairly sturdy since they will be giggled around during regular driving.

CCTV Camera Pros Response:

You are correct, with a wireless IP camera, the camera can connect to the router via a wireless bridge, instead of being hard wired.

I do not think this type of equipment will be the best choice for a mobile camera system though. There are wired mobile solutions on the market. Although we do not carry them at this time, that is what I would recommend looking into.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

A customer contacted CCTV Camera Pros with the following question when trying to setup his IP camera with our security camera viewer iPhone app, the iCamViewer:

What does port mean on the iCamViewer configuration screen?

CCTV Camera Pros technical support response:

Here is the long description of what a port is when used in the context of IP equipment, including video surveillance systems:

In network video surveillance systems, a port is an application or process software construct serving as a communications endpoint. The port is used by transport Layer protocols of the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP), such as Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP). A specific port is identified by its number, commonly known as the port number, the IP address with which it is associated, and the protocol used for communication.

The complete definition can be found here on Wikipedia here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_number

All IP cameras, network surveillance DVR, and network video server runs a web service on a certain port which allows client applications to connect to it in order to view video and in some cases access settings and controls. Please consult your devices user manual to see which port your camera uses.

If you can not find it, please let us know the manufacturer and model # of the device you are trying to use with the iCamViewer iPhone app, so that we can help further.

I have a client that wants 1 camera at his property in the country. He wants to record only on motion and wants to be able to view the camera from home. Would you recommend using a wireless camera or a analog camera. Using a wireless camera I would need to run the cat5 wire back to a router and have an internet connection, correct? From here would the client be able to view the camera from his home. OR, would it be better to use analog camera and run it back to a dvr, connect the dvr to an internet connection? I wouldn't need a computer set up out there, would I?

We Recently had a customer contact CCTV Camera Pros with the following question:
What Are the Advantages of IP Cameras? How do you record using IP cameras, will it work with my current CCTV Cameras.

CCTV Camera Pros Response:
The IP Cameras are a bit different than your typical CCTV Surveillance camera in the sense that CCTV Cameras connect directly to the back of your recording device or DVR. Where as the IP Cameras are plugged into your router and are ran over you internal network. The advantage of IP cameras is they can record in a much higher resolution. Depending on the camera up to 8 Mega Pixels. IP Cameras produce a much sharper resolution, great for applications which require details like Facial recognition or the ability to digitally zoom in on a specific object or area live or while reviewing previously recorded events. Another advantage when using IP Cameras is they have built in web server which will allow you to Remotely View and configure your cameras as long as you have internet connection were the camera is located.

In small 1-3 camera setups you can use an existing PC as your NVR (Network Video Recorder) , most IP cameras come with a basic recording software that you can download on a Windows PC . This software can not be used in conjunction with your current CCTV DVR System.

For your case because you want to use your current CCTV Cameras you will need what is know as a Hybrid System which supports IP and CCTV Cameras. Our Hybrid systems can manage up to 32 cameras. Here are the Leading Manufacturers your can use for a Hybrid System. NUUO http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/NUUO-Surveillance-Systems-s/296.htm GeoVision http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Geovision-DVR-Computers-Geovision-Surveillance-DVRs-s/60.htm and Alnet http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Alnet-Surveillance-Systems-s/376.htm.

Does he need to use Internet or is it possible to install these ip cameras in just a local network? Usually LAN is way more reliable.

AFAIK required bandwidth for 640x480 camera at 10 frames per second using "Motion JPEG" compression is 3-4MBit/s.
But in case if you choose MPEG4 or H.264 you need less than a 1MBit/s for each camera.

An installation partner recently contacted us with the following question regarding remote IP camera recording:

We have a client that wants to install 2 surveillance systems using IP cameras. This is a car repair shop. They are looking for a system that will provide coverage for the following:

1 Outdoor Camera to cover parking lot
1 Indoor Camera for the office
4 indoor cameras for

We want the ability to expand to additional cameras in the future.

Features to include:

full time recording during business hours
motion recording during non business hours.
alerts if motion is detected during off hours.

Cabling distances can exceed 300’. We will most likely power the cameras at their location.

This client has a second location. Is it possible to install an IP based system that allows the 2nd location to just have the IP cameras and have them connect over the internet to the main system? There will be a an estimated 4 cameras at the 2nd location.

CCTV Camera Pros response:

The challenge for remote recording of IP cameras is the limitation of available bandwidth. The typical DSL Internet connection has an has an upload speed of between 256KB and 512KB per second upload speed. The typical cable Internet connection upload speed is between 512KB and 2MB per second. It takes about 1MB per second upload speed to transmit an IP camera at 12 frames per second using 640 x 480 VGA resolution. As you can see it is just not realistic from a bandwidth speed standpoint unless the customer wants to record at a very slow frame rate and/or smaller resolution.

The second issue is reliability. If the Internet connection goes down on either end, so does the recording.

Al that being said, CCTV Camera Pros does not recommend recording IP cameras remotely over the Internet unless there is a very reliable and very fast Internet connection available on both the camera location and recorder location.

Please let me know if you want to discuss further or need anything else.

A customer recently made the following inquiry to CCTV Camera Pros:

Do you have any setup that has 4 wireless cameras, with I/R night vision that I could see on my iphone?

Here is CCTV Camera Pros response:

Justin,

If you also want to record the video from the cameras, you can use this system:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Network-Security-Camera-System-p/ip-sysm4zo.htm

I can not advertise the price, but if you call me for a quote, I can give you a better price on that system that what is advertised on the website.

If you want to make any of the cameras wireless, you can use this add-on wireless camera system to do so:

http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Wireless-Security-Camera-System-p/wifi-en95610.htm

If you do not need to do recording and you just want to access the cameras remotely from your iphone, then you do not need the NVR that comes with the IP camera system that I linked to above.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Sincerely.
