I currently own the dvr h.264, and it is not possible to access the dvr from a remote location using the cms software 2.18.10.
What would you recommend that i do? I can access the dvr perfectly well within the local network

If you are able to access on your local network but not remotely over the Internet, then most likely one of the following is the problem:
- Your port forwarding is not setup correctly
- Your modem has a firewall that needs to be disabled
- You are using DSL with a separate router and your DSL modem is not properly bridged
To setup your port forwarding, you must know what ports your DVR uses and you can refer to these instructions:
