Initial Camera Setup
All IP cameras follow the same basic setup steps to establish network connectivity. We attempt to make the steps below generic to any brand of IP camera. Because of this, the setup for some cameras may not follow these exact steps, but all should be similar.
- Connect your camera to your network using an Ethernet cable. Depending on how your network is setup, you will connect the camera to your network router, switch, or modem/router combo device.
- Most IP cameras include a configuration tool that can run on a PC, which will scan your network for IP cameras. Run this software to locate the camera on your network.
- Connect to the camera in a web browser from a computer and make note of the IP address that was assigned to your camera. This will be displayed in the address bar of your web browser and look something like this.
http://192.168.0.100/cam
192.168.0.100 is the IP address in this example.
- Once you have established a local connection to your IP camera, you can test connecting to your IP with the iCamViewer app.
PLEASE NOTE: at this point you will only be able to connect to your camera on the local network (not remotely over the Internet). To do this, you need to connect your iPhone to the local network that your IP camera is on via WIFI.
IMPORTANT: if your iPhone is connected via 3G, 4G, LTE, or EDGE, you will not be able to connect to your camera at this point.
