any help will be great, I have check and double checked all settings and I can only connect with iview with my wifi on and only from the local network that the geovision is running on???

Are you sure the ports are open. You can make sure with this tool http://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/check-open-port-forwarding-tool
If they are reading closed I would first double check all of the port forwarding rules in the router to make sure you have all of the credentials filled in correctly.
Also if you have DSL or satellite provider and you are using a third party router in conjunction with a modem you will want to call them and ask them to bridge the modem to your router.

so if I verify the ports are NOT open and I have comcast cable modem/gateway linked to linksys router where I believe I have all the settings correct, is it still likely I would have to call comcast to "bridge" them?

Yes with the any business Gateway/Modem combo device you will need to bridge the device to your router.
