A customer contacted us via chat this morning with the following issue related to controlling a PTZ camera from a joystick and iPhone. Below is a transcript of the chat.
Customer:
Hi I have a joystick controlling my ptz cameras (4 in total). I also have the cameras setup to view via my iPhone.
Only issue I have is ptz can only be controlled through joystick and not iPhone.
How can ptz be co trolled with joystick and also through iPhone ? I tried to piggyback the red black to dvr from joystick but then only control went to iPhone how can they both be used to control?
I basically want to add iPhone PTZ controls without losing the joystick controls at the DVR.
CCTV Support:
So, please confirm. Your DVR currently supports iPhone PTZ controls, yes?
Customer:
Yes.
CCTV Support:
Also please confirm. You are saying that when you run the RS-485 from the camera to the joystick it is OK, but if you go RS-485 out from the joystick to the RS-485 in on the DVR, the joystick no longer works?
Customer:
That is correct the joystick gives control to iPhone
CCTV Support:
Does your DVR have an RS-485 input for a joystick? or a serial port for joystick?
Customer:
It has the A and B inputs
CCTV Support:
and also an RS-485 output?
Customer:
Correct
CCTV Support:
So, I would recommend trying 2 things.
1) Confirm when you did it the original way, that when you went to control via joystick, the iphone connection was closed.
2) Try going RS-485 out from the DVR to the camera, and RS-485 in from the joystick to the DVR.
Customer:
Ok so have dvr primary then the joystick piggyback… Sounds like good idea Yes, I will try that and if any issues ill chat back.
