How can I setup alarm input and output devices on a Q-See CCTV DVR / NVR?

A customer contacted my today and asked the following questions.

I really like your videos on Youtube about CCTV systems and alarm setup / integration with surveillance DVRs. You seem very knowledgeable when it comes to alarm setup and I am hoping that you can help me out.

Please see attach photos and I also added and also refer to the NVR QC8816 DVR manual in case you need to review the alarm section on page 39.

I have 4 questions, and I only need help with physical wiring not technical.

    1) How can I physically wire a regular door sensor to this specific alarm block at the back of my NVR?
Q-See CCTV DVR Alarm Inputs Outputs

    2) How can I physically wire and external 12v strobe light or a siren using the output alarm. The relay is JRC-27F

    3) I really need your expertise on this question……How can I physically hook up the Dakota motion alert?
    Wireless Alarm Motion Detector

    4) Finally, how can I connect a horn speaker to my NVR so I can use my iPhone app to talk like a PA system. I have seen couple videos but there isn’t any good direction on how to do it.

Mr. Haldas, I really appreciate your help and I know that you have answers to each one of my questions.

I am reaching out to you since you offered your email for questions on your website http://www.cctvcamerapros.com

Feel free to ask me any questions by email or by phone, I know you are not obligated to answer me since I am not using your products but I had no luck with Q-see support nor Dakota alert customer service. I should have done more research brfore buying thier products.

Here is the advice that I gave to this customer.

Thank you for checking out my videos and for the kind words. Please understand that I know how the surveillance DVRs that we supply work inside and out as a result of hand-on testing by myself and the team at CCTV Camera Pros. The in house testing that we do allows us to do the best job in the industry in supporting video surveillance equipment that we supply.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for me to have this same level of knowledge on equipment that I have never tested myself. We also can not afford to provide technical support for our competitors if you know what I mean.

That being said, we do try to help out through education and point people in the right direction when we can. In concept, most CCTV DVRs should basically work the same in regards to how to connect alarm inputs / outputs / relays / etc.

    1) How can I physically wire a regular door sensor to this specific alarm block at the back of my NVR ( photo of the alarm block is attached)
You should be able to follow these instructions for our iDVR-PRO CCTV DVR on how to connect a door sensor and motion sensor to a DVR. You obviously need to improvise for your specific DVR as these instructions are specific to iDVR-PRO CCTV DVRs.

    2) How can I physically wire and external 12v strobe light or a siren using the output alarm. The relay is JRC-27F
You should be able to follow these instructions on how to connect an the alarm relay output using iDVR-PRO. Again, you will need to improvise for the QSEE DVR.

    3) I really need your expertise on this question……How can I physically hook up the Dakota motion alert ( picture attached) to my alarm)
It should be the same process as the door alarm and motion sensor.

    4) Finally, how can I connect a horn speaker to my NVR so I can use my iphone app to talk like a PA system. I have seen couple videos but there isn’t any good direction on how to do it.
This is going to depend on whether the DVR manufacturer created an iPhone app that supports this functionality. Please contact the QSEE technical support for this one.

**Important Note: Please understand that I have provided instructions for the iDVR-PRO that CCTV Camera Pros supplies. The concepts for connecting alarm devices to the input and outputs of the DVR should be the same or similar on most DVRs (including QSEE) but I make no guarantees that this will work on your unit. You also assume all risk in regards to any damage to your unit that can occur by connecting things improperly and / or by following instructions that were not written for QSEE DVRs.

I could only guarantee that everything would work if you were using an iDVR-PRO supplied by CCTV Camera Pros.

I hope that this helps you figure things out.
