Below are step by step instructions to setup your DVR or IP Camera for remote viewing.

1.) First Make sure your DVR or IP Camera support remote viewing

2.) Second you need to obtian the ip address and the port of your DVR or IP camera. Typically you can find this under network within the system menu of your DVR or IP camera.

3.) Once you have the ip address and port info for your camera log into your router. Now click this link and find the port forwarding instructions that correspond with your routerhttps://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Internet-Surveillance-Setup-s/156.htm

4.) Now that you have the port forwarding setup, go to this web page https://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/check-open-port-forwarding-tool. Check and make sure port 80 is open.

5.) Take the ip address you get from the open port tool and type that into your web browser or Client software.

    Hello.

I wonder if anyone is able to help me. I have an Avtech AVC796 DVR which works perfectly as a standalone unit. However, when I connect to it over my local network I am unable to login.

At the welcome screen I use username ADMIN (uppercase) plus my password that has been set on the box and which I successfully use locally. Then, having entered the verification code (again, using uppercase when displayed) the login fails with the message:

    ERROR: Authentication error.

I hope it is a relatively easy fix – next up will be remote access over the internet followed by EagleEyes, but one step at a time!

    Kind regards,

    Dave.

    RoddyJoff,

I am sorry but CCTV Camera Pros does not carry AVtech DVRs. If it ends up not working out for you, you may want to check out our iDVR which is one of the best DVRs on the market for remote Internet viewing, including iPhone, Android, and iPad:

    https://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Internet-Video-Surveillance-DVR-s/424.htm

As another alternative choice, you can use this 4 channel network video server as an add-on to any DVR to enable remote camera viewing from PC and mobile cell phones:

    https://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Geovision-Network-Video-Server-p/gv-vs04h.htm

Please let us know if we can help further.

Although CCTV Camera Pros only can provide phone, email, and online chat based technical support for the DVRs that we supply.

The concepts and setup process for all surveillance DVRs is the same. Here are basic steps required for just about any brand DVR or IP camera.

Does the Internet connection at the location of your DVR or IP camera use a dynamic IP address? If yes, you need to setup a DDNS account. Some DVRs and IP cameras has a DDNS service built into them. You can learn more about DDNS here.
    https://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Dynamic-IP-Surveillance-System-s/280.htm

And, you can see how it is setup using our iDVR-PRO CCTV DVRs here.
    https://www.cctvcamerapros.com/H264-DVR-DDNS-Setup-s/838.htm

The second thing that need to be done is setting up port forwarding. You can learn more about port forwarding here.
    https://www.cctvcamerapros.com/port-forwarding-s/130.htm

And you can access a port forwarding tool to make sure your setup is working correctly here.

Open Port Checker, Port Forwarding Test

Here is a remote security camera view from the iPhone app for iDVR-PRO DVRs.
