  • How do I factory reset a Viewtron IP security camera, and / or reset the cameras password back to the default?

    Viewtron IP cameras ship with username admin and default password 123456. After a successful factory reset, the camera returns to that default login. Use one of the three methods below depending on whether you can reach the camera on the network, open the service panel, or still log into the web UI.

    1. Factory reset with Viewtron IPTOOL (network restore)

    Download and run the Viewtron IPTOOL on a Windows PC that is on the same switch / network as the cameras.

    • If the cameras are powered from PoE ports on a Viewtron NVR, plug the PC into one of those PoE ports (or another port on the same LAN segment) so IPTOOL can see the cameras.
    1. Start IPTOOL and let it scan. It lists the Viewtron IP cameras it finds on the LAN.
    2. Locate the MAC address of the camera you want to restore.
    3. Type that MAC address into the RESTORE IPC DEFAULT CONFIG field.
    4. Click OK.
    5. Within 30 seconds, reboot the camera by unplugging and replugging its PoE / power cable.

    After reboot, the camera should be back on the default config (admin / 123456) and ready to rediscover.

    2. Hold the RST button on the camera (30 seconds)

    If you can reach the camera physically:

    1. Find the service panel on the camera (small door held by two Philips-head screws).
    2. Unscrew and open the panel.
    3. Hold the button labeled RST for 30 seconds (use a paper clip or similar). Release and wait for the camera to reboot.

    Turret and bullet housings both have an RST button behind the service panel; the panel location differs by model.

    3. Load Default from the camera web UI

    Use this when you still know the camera password and can open the camera in a browser.

    1. Log into the camera web UI (username admin, your current password).
    2. Go to Config > Backup and Restore (under Maintenance).
    3. Click Load Default and confirm.

    The camera reloads factory defaults. Afterward, log in with admin / 123456 unless you set a new password during first-time setup.

    Quick checklist

    • Default login after reset: admin / 123456.
    • Network path: IPTOOL > enter MAC in Restore IPC Default Config > OK > reboot PoE within 30 seconds.
    • Physical path: service panel > hold RST 30 seconds.
    • Web path: Config > Backup and Restore > Load Default (needs current password).
