    “I have a 1080p Night Owl DVR. Which of your cameras can I add to it?”

    Only 1080p cameras. Every camera on our NIGHT OWL REPLACEMENT CAMERAS page that is 1080p will work with a 1080p Night Owl DVR, but 4MP, 5MP and 4K cameras will not, because a DVR can only show cameras up to its own resolution.

    Which video mode do I use for my DVR?

    Viewtron 1080p cameras have a selector on the video cable for HD-TVI, AHD, HD-CVI and CVBS. Night Owl lists these formats on its support pages: the C20X series takes CVI, AHD and TVI, the BTD2 series takes AHD and TVI, and the HDA10 series takes AHD and CVBS. Before you mount a camera, check which input mode (AHD or TVI) your DVR channel uses, in the DVR menu or by testing the camera on that channel, and set the camera to match. This matters most on the BTD2. The HDA10-81-RS and HDA10-162-RS models record 720p only, so for those we recommend replacing the DVR instead.

    Which 1080p cameras work?

    Popular choices are the HD-Q12 1080p infrared camera, the HD-Q3 1080p dome camera, and the HD-D180 180 degree dome camera for wide areas. Other owners shared what worked for them in our HD cameras compatible with Night Owl DVR forum topic.

    What if I want 4K cameras?

    Then replace the recorder. A Viewtron hybrid DVR from our Night Owl DVR replacement page runs your existing Night Owl coax cameras and any 1080p to 4K Viewtron camera. BTD2 owners should know that 2-way audio, siren and spotlight features show video only on a Viewtron DVR.
