I received the following question from a customer this morning:

I want to know if I can connect an external siren alarm to an alarm relay output port on the back of a Viewtron NVR (16ch PoE NVR for IP cameras).

Can the alarm relay on the back of the NVR will handle adding a siren’s and power adapter to relay?

    Power supply adapter

    Input 100-240/acd .3a output 12v 0.5a

With either siren, your 15 watt wall mount siren #ss100h or 20 watt indoor outdoor siren #mg50jr.

Here is the response I gave him:

The alarm replay output ports on the back of Viewtron NVRs support a maximum current rating of 1A for DC power and 0.5A for AC power, with voltage ratings of 30VDC or 125VAC. So, the maximum power rating is 30 watts for DC powered alarm devices and 62.5 watts for AC powered alarm devices. The siren’s power supply that you mentioned is safely within that range.

You can find a setup article and video here on how to setup alarm relay output ports on Viewtron DVRs and NVRs.

You can find the Viewtron 16ch PoE NVR here along with all of the other Viewtron DVRs and NVRs.

Please let us know if we can help further.
