Are Hikvision IP cameras compatible with Viewtron NVRs?

Yes. Most Hikvision IP cameras are ONVIF compatible which makes them compatible with Viewtron IP camera NVRs.

In order to connect a Hikvision IP camera to a Viewtron NVR, the camera must have ONVIF support enabled. Some Hikvision cameras have ONVIF enabled by factory default and some do not. If you connect your Hikvision camera to one of the PoE ports on a Viewtron NVR and it is unable to connect, then you most likely need to log in directly to the camera and enable ONVIF support by following these instructions.

Connect your Hikvision IP camera to your network router or PoE port. Do not connect it directly to the Viewtron NVR’s PoE port.

1. Log into your Hikvision camera in a web browser and navigate to CONFIGURATION > NETWORK > ADVANCED SETTINGS > INTEGRATION PROTOCOL (see below image)
2. One this screen do the following:
   • Check the ENABLE ONVIF checkbox
   • Set the HIKVISION CGI AUTHENTICATION  to DIGEST / BASIC
   • Click the ADD button to add / create a username and password ( you can set this to the same username and password as the camera’s main username and password for simplicity).
3. Click SAVE to save the settings.

Now you can connect your Hikvision camera to one of the Viewtron NVR’s PoE ports.

If the NVR does not connect to the camera, add the ONVIF user to the NVR.

On the Viewtron NVR go to START > SETTINGS > EDIT CAMERA > Click the EDIT button next to the camera and enter in the ONVIF username and password you created.

Select  Quick ADD > The HIKVISION IP camera should populate, simply select it by clicking the checkbox next to it and click the ADD button.

Your Hikvision IP camera should now be connected to your Viewtron IP camera NVR.
