I have a Mitsubishi DX TL2500 CCTV DVR, and I have been trying to figure out the best resolution outdoor security cameras that are compatible. I’m in the process of upgrading the HDD’s to three 2TB drives.I am not sure if AHD cameras are supported or if converters would be needed, or worth it or if I should replace the DVR as well.

This is the recommendation that I gave to this customer.

I looked up the spec online for your Mitsubishi DX TL2500 DVR. It is a discontinued analog CCTV DVR. Cutting edge about 15 years ago, but basically a dinosaur at this point. It is only capable of recording at 720×288 resolution based on the spec that I found online. That is not even the highest resolution for analog CCTV cameras, which is 960 x 480.

That DVR will NOT work with AHD security cameras.

I highly recommend our Viewtron hybrid DVRs for your consideration as a replacement, especially if you want to start purchasing higher resolution cameras that work with your existing coax cable.

You can find 4ch, 8ch, and 16ch Viewtron hybrid security camera DVRs here.

Viewtron hybrid DVRs work with analog CVBS, AHD, HD-TVI, and HD-CVI format cameras. I assume that you have RG59 or RG6 in place. This would allow you to use any of the AHD or HD-TVI cameras that we supply.

These hybrid DVRs will work with all BNC cameras that we supply, including 1080p, 4 megapixel, and 4K / 8 megapixel resolution.

They are also compatible with ONVIF compliant network IP cameras. We highly recommend these Viewtron IP cameras.
