CCTV Camera Pros had a customer ask the following questions related to setting up remote access to a vehicle video surveillance system:

I have a mobile surveillance system consisting of a PTZ camera mounted on a truck with a controller and monitor in the vehicle for Adhoc patrol surveilance. Is there a mobile device that can take the video signal and transmit it over a 3G gsm mobile network so that the feed can be monitored online remotely or using IP? I hear there are modules with a sim card slot and video input that can do this but I can't seem to find any plug n play devices that I can just hook up. Most solutions require proprietary software, licensing etc. I am looking for a device that comes with 12v DC power supply for vehicle use and that also has a USB socket where I can plug in a 3g modem card or wifi dongle?

    CCTV Camera Pros suggestion:

The Geovision GV-VS04H is a 4 port network video server that has a USB port that can be used to connect a 3G / USB Internet broadband device or USB WIFI dongle to. The following USB broadband devices are currently supported:

    • HUAWEI – E169, E220, E1692, EC169C, E1750, E1752, E1756 USB Modem (HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS/GSM)
    • Novatel – MC950D, MC996D, MC998D (HSDPA/UMTS/EDGE/GPRS/GSM)
    • Onda – MSA523HS
    • Verizon – USB760 Modem (EVDO)
    • Vodafone – K3565 (Rev 2)

The video server (with a mobile broadband USB device attached will allow you to access the video and PTZ controls of your camera remotely over the Internet.
