I am in the market for an outdoor security camera system. I noticed on your website and others that most outdoor surveillance cameras have a weatherproof rating that starts with “IP” and two digits after it. I am not familiar with what this is. Can you please explain?
The IP weatherproof rating code actually stands for International Protection Rating. The rating consists of the letters “IP” followed by two digits. The rating is defined by the international standard IEC 60529. The rating tells you the level of protection that the security camera body provides against the intrusion objects (including water). The standard basically defines the level or “waterproof-ness” that a camera provides.
