A family member asked I help spec out a remote security camera setup in a rural vacation home. No broadband is available, so we're thinking a Verison 3G mobile hotspot, connected to a router, then to an iDVR (still debating how many cameras might be needed, but likely either 4 or 8, no more). I'm wondering whether the 3G connection can handle the bandwidth. Anything else we should be thinking about? Thanks!

    Hello Obtuse90,

Most likely 3G connection will not do the trick. We recommend at least 300-400 kbps for upload minimum. It will be hard to do that with a 3G Hot spot. You may want to get with Verizon to see if they can get you an estimate of what the upload may be at the location you are setting up the DVR. Please let me know if you have any questions.
