Viewtron VMS E-Map: All Camera Labels Turn Green During an Alarm

Home › Forums › Viewtron Security Camera Systems Support › Viewtron VMS Software › Viewtron VMS E-Map: All Camera Labels Turn Green During an Alarm

  • When an alarm comes in on my Viewtron VMS E-Map, every camera label on the map turns green. How do I tell which camera actually triggered the alarm?

This is a common question from Viewtron VMS users who build an E-Map of their building. Here is what is happening and the one setting that fixes it.

    1. The problem: every camera label turns green

Why do all of the camera labels on my E-Map turn green during an alarm?

With the default VMS settings, while any alarm is pending, every camera label on the open map turns green. The map does not point you to the camera that triggered the alarm, so you cannot tell which camera saw the event.

Is Clear All on E-Map Monitoring the fix?

No. Before this fix, Clear All on the E-Map Monitoring screen was the only way to clear the green labels. It clears every pending alarm at once and gives you no confirmation, and the labels turn green again on the next alarm.

    2. The fix: turn on alarm state for the monitoring point

Which setting makes only the alarming camera turn green?

In the Viewtron VMS, go to Local Configuration -> Resource Tree Config and turn ON “Show alarm state for the monitoring point”. Then click Apply.

What does the E-Map look like after the change?

Now only the label of the camera that triggered the alarm turns green. All of the other camera labels stay gray, so you can see right away where the event is on the map.

When does the green label clear?

The label clears on its own when the detection ends, even while alarms are still pending in the VMS. You do not need to click Clear All.

    Did you test this?

Yes. We tested this in our office on October 12, 2026 with a Viewtron IP-180-4D camera on our E-Map. Only the IP-180-4D label turned green when it detected, and it went back to gray when the detection ended.

    3. Related tip: the alarm pop-up (Alarm Preview)

Why will my Alarm Preview setting not save in Alarm Linkage Settings?

In Alarm Center -> Alarm Setting -> Alarm Linkage Settings, Alarm Preview only saves if the camera is turned ON for that alarm type and at least one action (for example Record) is set in the same Apply. If you set Alarm Preview by itself, it does not stick.

Why does my alarm linkage not run?

The NVR must be armed for alarm linkage to run. If the NVR is disarmed, the VMS will not record or pop up the alarm view.

    4. Quick checklist

    • Local Configuration -> Resource Tree Config -> Show alarm state for the monitoring point: ON, then Apply.
    • Only the alarming camera label turns green. The others stay gray.
    • The label clears when the detection ends.
    • For the alarm pop-up, turn the camera ON and set Record (or another action) with Alarm Preview in the same Apply.
    • Make sure the NVR is armed.
