“Please Uninstall Previous Versions of VMS before Installing.”

Here is a question we get from some customers when trying to reinstall or update the Viewtron VMS software on a Windows PC:

“I am trying to reinstall Viewtron VMS and I get a message that previous versions of VMS must be uninstalled first. I already uninstalled it. How do I fix this?”

This message shows up when files or registry entries from an old VMS download or install are still on the PC, even after a normal uninstall from Windows. The fix is to remove every trace of the old VMS, then run the installer again.

How do I remove hidden old versions of the Viewtron VMS?

We recommend a 3rd Party tool called Uninstall Tool from CrystalIdea. It finds programs that Windows Apps and Features misses and can force removal of leftover files. It has a 30 day free trial, which is plenty for this job. You can download it here:

Once it is installed, open it and do the following.

1. Type VMS in the Search box on the left (red box). Check each list along the bottom: Apps, System, Hidden, Microsoft Store Apps and Install and trace (yellow box). Old VMS installs can show up in more than one.
2. Select each VMS entry and click Uninstall (green box).
3. If the VMS installer still gives you the same message, select the VMS entry again and click Force removal of all traces (purple box).
