  • I backed up some video from my Viewtron NVR to a USB drive. What video player do I need to play the exported video files on my PC?

It depends on the file format you picked when you exported the video. Viewtron DVRs and NVRs can back up video in three formats: Private (.db3), AVI or MP4. Private is the default. Use the free RPAS video player for Private .db3 files, and use VLC media player for AVI and MP4 files.

You choose the format in the Format menu at the bottom of the Record Backup screen on the DVR or NVR.

    1. How do I play a Private .db3 video backup?

If you backed up the video using the default Private format, the files are .db3 files. You need the RPAS player to play them. You can download it here: RPAS db3 video player download.

    1. Unzip the download and run RPAS.exe.
    2. Select Open Folder.
    3. Select the folder of your video backup. You should now see the folder name in the upper left corner of the RPAS player.
    4. Expand the folder so you can see the backup date.
    5. Double-click the date and the video will start to play.

    2. What player plays AVI and MP4 video from a Viewtron DVR or NVR?

If you backed up the video as AVI or MP4, we recommend VLC media player. It is free and you can download it here: VLC media player download.

    1. Install VLC media player.
    2. Right-click the video file and select Open with, then VLC media player.

    3. Which backup format should I use?

Use AVI or MP4 when you need to share the video with someone else, like the police or your insurance company, because those files play in VLC and most other video players. Private .db3 files need the RPAS player to play.
