  • How do I set up Audio Exception on a Viewtron NVR so loud spikes (neighbors, dogs, vehicles, gunshots, and similar) are flagged as searchable events?

    Audio Exception listens for abnormal sound-intensity changes on a supported Viewtron AI camera. It does not work with third-party cameras or non-AI Viewtron cameras. When an event fires, the NVR marks it so you can jump to that time in playback or filter it in Event Search, then export video for your records or local authorities.

    1. Open Audio Exception on the NVR

    On the recorder: Start > Settings > AI / Event > More > Audio Exception.

    1. Choose the camera from the dropdown (must be a supported Viewtron AI camera).
    2. Check Enable.
    3. Check Sudden Increase of Sound Intensity Detection.
    4. Adjust Sound Intensity Threshold (and Sensitivity if needed).
    5. Click Apply.

    2. What each setting means

    Sudden Increase of Sound Intensity Detection: Triggers when sound intensity jumps above the threshold. Sensitivity and threshold are adjustable.

    Sensitivity: Higher values make alarms easier to trigger.

    Sound Intensity Threshold: Reference level for detection. Lower values trigger more easily. Set it near the average background sound for that camera. Louder environments need a higher threshold. Use the real-time audio graphic to tune it.

    Sudden decrease of sound intensity: Optional second rule. Higher sensitivity triggers more easily. Most installs that only need loud spikes leave increase detection on and skip decrease until needed.

    Real-time audio graphic:

    • Red wavy line — current detected sound intensity
    • Navy blue line — background / environment sound intensity
    • Green (threshold) line — the sound intensity threshold

    To cut false alarms, set sensitivity and threshold so normal background stays under the threshold and real spikes cross it.

    3. Find Audio Exception events in playback

    After setup, review recordings the usual way. Video playback overview: Viewtron DVR / NVR playback.

    On the playback timeline, Audio Exception (and other AI / event flags) show as a turquoise highlight. Dark blue is normal recording with no event.

    4. Filter with Event Search

    Use Event Search and filter to Audio Exception so you only see those events for the cameras and time range you choose. Walkthrough: Viewtron event search.

    Quick checklist

    • Supported Viewtron AI camera only (not third-party / non-AI).
    • Path: Start > Settings > AI / Event > More > Audio Exception.
    • Enable + Sudden Increase of Sound Intensity Detection + Apply.
    • Tune threshold from the real-time audio graphic.
    • Playback: turquoise = event; dark blue = normal recording.
    • Event Search: filter Type to Audio Exception.
