This Swann DVR camera compatibility guide helps customers find replacement security cameras that work with Swann surveillance systems. The guide and FAQ is also helpful if you are looking for a replacement DVR that works with Swann cameras.
This guide is for Swann DVRs that use hard wired security cameras via coax cable and BNC connectors. You can see what BNC video inputs looks like on the back of a DVR in the above image. Network video recorders (NVRs) will not be covered in this guide. I will write a Swann NVR / IP camera compatibility guide in the future.
Swann DVR camera compatibility is categorized below according to the video format (camera type) that each DVR model supports. Some DVRs support more than one type which is why some DVRs are listed in more than one category. DVRs that are compatible with more than one video surveillance format are known as hybrid DVRs.
We also have the Swann camera DVR compatibility guide here in PDF format.

- What type of cable is used to connect a CCTV camera to a Swann DVR?
Analog CCTV cameras and HD-over-Coax security cameras (AHD and HD-TVI) can be wired to Swann DVRs using pre-made BNC camera cable or by custom cutting cable from a spool of RG59 Siamese.
- Can I extend the length of the cables that were included with my Swann system?
Yes, you can extend the distance of cables included with Swann DVR systems by using a female to female BNC connector to connect an additional security camera cable. Please note that pre-made cables are more limited in the total distance they can be run. In my experience, you can not run pre-made cables longer than 200-250 feet max.
- How can I connect my Swann camera directly to a TV?
If you are using an analog HD (AHD) or HD-TVI format Swann security camera, you can use this BNC to HDMI converter.

Yes, CCTV camera splitters are available to share the video signal from one camera with multiple devices. Video amplifiers are also available on that page that can boost the video signal of security cameras that use RG59 cable.
- Can I use CAT-5 or CAT-6 network cable to wire Swann CCTV cameras?
Yes, video baluns can be used to wire CCTV cameras and HD-over-Coax security cameras using CAT-5 cable. If you are using AHD or HD-TVI format cameras, please take a look at this page for HD-TVI baluns. They also work with AHD cameras.
