  • Are you looking for an NDAA compliant replacement for your Hikvision or Dahua DVR or NVR? Can you keep the cameras you already have, or do you have to rip out the whole system?

Short answer: you can use your existing security cameras and cables, and we replace Hikvision and Dahua DVRs and NVRs with an NDAA compliant Viewtron security recorder. Hikvision and Dahua BNC cameras work with Viewtron hybrid DVRs. Hikvision and Dahua IP cameras are ONVIF compliant, so they work with Viewtron NVRs and Viewtron hybrid DVRs. You swap the recorder, keep your existing cameras and cables, and replace cameras with Viewtron over time as they fail.

Viewtron is NDAA compliant, and we provide a signed NDAA compliance letter for your records. You can see everything we have on our NDAA compliant security camera systems page.

Why are so many people doing this now? Since July 16, 2026, the FCC prohibits importing and marketing Hikvision and Dahua video surveillance equipment for public safety, government facilities, and other national security purposes. More FCC rules take effect on October 13, 2026 (details below). If you work for a government facility, a federal contractor, or a critical infrastructure site, or your customer requires NDAA compliant equipment, now is the time to replace your Hikvision or Dahua recorder.

NOTE: if you want to be 100% sure that your existing Hikvision or Dahua cameras will work with a Viewtron DVR or NVR, you can email me here anytime with the make and model of your camera(s) and recorder: mike@cctvcamerapros.net.

    1. Replacing a Hikvision or Dahua NVR (IP cameras)

Hikvision and Dahua IP cameras are ONVIF compliant, so they work with Viewtron NVRs and Viewtron hybrid DVRs. You may have to enable ONVIF in the camera first. Here are the step by step instructions:

Some cloud-only consumer models, like some EZVIZ cameras, may not support ONVIF.

If your cameras were on an external PoE switch with static IP addresses, see NVR Setup: Dealing with 3rd Party IP Camera Set to Static IP. For more details on swapping out a Hikvision NVR, see our Hikvision NVR replacement page. You can find all of our Viewtron IP camera NVRs here.

    2. Replacing a Hikvision or Dahua DVR (BNC cameras)

Hikvision and Dahua BNC cameras work with Viewtron hybrid DVRs. Every BNC input on a Viewtron hybrid DVR supports analog CCTV (CVBS), AHD, HD-TVI, and HD-CVI, so it does not matter if you have Hikvision HD-TVI cameras or Dahua HD-CVI cameras. You keep your existing coax cable and BNC connectors. Viewtron hybrid DVRs also support ONVIF IP cameras, so you can mix BNC and IP cameras on the same recorder.

Moving to IP cameras but have a few coax runs that are hard to replace? The Viewtron VT-VS5 analog to IP encoder converts a BNC camera into an ONVIF IP camera signal for a Viewtron NVR.

    3. Is Viewtron NDAA compliant?

Yes. Viewtron security cameras, NVRs, and DVRs are NDAA compliant. They are manufactured in an NDAA compliant facility in China. They are not produced by Hikvision, Dahua, or any other manufacturer banned under NDAA Section 889, and they do not use components from those manufacturers. You can download our signed NDAA compliance letter and find all of our products on the NDAA compliant security camera systems page.

    4. What did the FCC change for Hikvision and Dahua in 2026?

As of September 30, 2026, here is where things stand:

    • NDAA Section 889: since August 13, 2019, federal agencies cannot buy Hikvision or Dahua video surveillance equipment. Since August 13, 2020, they cannot contract with companies that use it, and federal grant and loan funds cannot be used to buy it (FAR 52.204-25, 2 CFR 200.216).
    • 2022: the FCC stopped authorizing new Hikvision and Dahua video surveillance equipment, including re-branded versions (FCC 22-84, Federal Register, Feb 6, 2023).
    • July 16, 2026: importing and marketing previously approved Hikvision and Dahua equipment is prohibited for public safety, government facilities, and other national security purposes (DA 26-635, Federal Register, Jul 6, 2026).
    • October 13, 2026: the FCC will not authorize new devices that contain logic-bearing components from Covered List companies like Hikvision and Dahua, and a new definition of “critical infrastructure” takes effect (FCC 26-50, Federal Register, Sep 11, 2026). The FCC has stated that the import and marketing prohibition for critical infrastructure surveillance also takes effect that day (FCC Covered List).

Can I keep using my Hikvision or Dahua system? Yes. The FCC says consumers may continue to use equipment they already have if it was legally purchased. The FCC rules do not require anyone to remove installed systems. The practical problem is that replacement recorders and parts will keep getting harder to find, so when your Hikvision or Dahua recorder fails, that is a good time to switch to Viewtron.

    5. How do I know if I have Hikvision or Dahua equipment?

    • Check the label on your recorder and cameras for the brand, model number, and FCC ID. You can look up the FCC ID with the FCC ID search.
    • If you view your system with Hik-Connect or iVMS-4200 (Hikvision), or DMSS or SmartPSS (Dahua), there is a good chance that company made it, even if a different brand is on the box.
    • A lot of Hikvision and Dahua equipment was sold under other brand names. Amcrest states that it built its brand in partnership with Dahua. Lorex was owned by Dahua from 2018 until Dahua sold it to Skywatch in November 2022 (Dahua press release). EZVIZ is a Hikvision subsidiary (EqualOcean).
