LPR Camera Comoatible with Lorex IP Camera NVR

Just watched one of your YouTube videos about the Viewtron LPR camera.

We have about 10 Lorex NVR camera systems setup around our multi-tenant industrial complexes. As you can imagine, we have excessive public dumping around our dumpsters.

Is the Viewtron LPR camera compatible with a Lorex NVR system or does it require a new Viewtron NVR?

I received the above email from a Lorex customer that was interested in a Viewtron license plate recognition camera. Below was my response.

Yes. You can use our Viewtron LPR-IP4 camera with a Lorex NVR. The Viewtron LPR cameras are compatible with Lorex NVRs and any other third party NVR as long as they are ONVIF compliant (most are). Using the ONVIF or RTSP video connection to your existing Lorex NVRs will give you “License Plate Capture” (LPC) functionality. License plate capture is the ability to record video clearly enough on moving vehicles so that plates can be identified when a human reviews the recorded video surveillance footage. License Plate Capture vs Automatic License Plate Recognition

What you do NOT get when using a Lorex NVR with a Viewtron LPR camera is the automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) software integrated into the Lorex NVR. This is the ability for the LPR-IP4 to automatically identify the numbers and letters on the license plates and log the plates and events to a database. The events are bookmarked so that they are easy to find for search and playback. This integration is the benefit you get by using a Viewtron NVR.

The ALPR software is completely integrated into all Viewtron NVR models. Most customers only need license plate capture. The automatic number plate recognition is more important when you want to enable access controls and / or automations based on license plate numbers.

Our Viewtron NVRs are all ONVIF compliant so that they work with third party IP cameras, including Lorex. In case you want to migrate to one now or later.
