Dome 4K IP Camera: Day & Night Infrared Video Surveillance

The Viewtron IP-A8BZ is a dome 4K IP camera with excellent IR night vision and a wide angle lens (motorized varifocal). I recently added this Viewtron dome IP camera to my home security camera system. Watch this video to see some day and night-time infrared video surveillance that I recorded with it.

Dome IP Camera Installation

The 4K dome IP camera that I recorded the above video surveillance with is installed above my garage door 9 feet, 4 inches from the ground.

home security camera installation

My house is set back 35 feet from the street. I am showing this for perspective on how large of an area at my home this IP camera monitors.

dome IP camera wide angle lens

The width if my front yard extends from just to the left of that oak tree to my mail box. This area is 65 feet wide. When I recorded the video surveillance footage, I had the motorized varifical lens of the camera set to the widest angle, which is 2.8mm. The Viewtron IP-A8DZ has a motorized / autofocus 2.8-12mm lens.

Turret-Style Dome IP Camera

The IP-A8DZ is enclosed in an IP67 weatherproof rated turret-style dome housing. The gimbal style allows installers to mount this camera to a wall or ceiling. The IP67 weatherproof rating holds up to harsh weather climates, wet and cold. This camera is great for indoor and outdoor installations.

Video Surveillance Snapshot Images

I saved a few snapshot images when I was recording. Here is the normal light daytime image captured by the Viewtron dome.

IR Night Vision Surveillance

Here is a night time snapshot using the camera’s built-in IR night vision. Please note that there is a street light in front of my house that provides ambient light. So, this is not a zero light infrared test.

Motorized Varifical Lens with Auto-Focus

4K IP Camera Motorized with Varifocal Lens

The Viewtron IP-A8DZ has a motorized varifocal lens with auto-focus. The Viewtron IP-A8BZ (the bullet version of this camera) also has a 2.8-12mm motorized lens. Watch the above video to see the angle of view range that this lens provides. You can see the original blog post here: 4K IP Camera with Motorized Varifocal Lens.

Viewtron NVR

IP Camera NVR

All of the security cameras at my house are Viewtron IP cameras that are hard wired to a 8 channel Viewtron NVR. All of the cameras are connected to the NVR’s built-in PoE ports.

IP Camera with AI Software

Video Transcript

Hey everyone, Mike from CCTV Camera Pros here in this video I’m going to show you some video surveillance footage that I captured with one of our new Viewtron dome IP cameras. It’s that dome IP camera that you see mounted up above my garage door there behind me. And that’s a 4K resolution IP camera with a motorized 2.8 to 12 millimeter lens. And I have the lens at the widest angle so so it can monitor my entire driveway out here in front of the camera. And the angle of view is really nice and wide. I’m gonna do a daytime video demo first and then I’m gonna show you what the IR night vision looks like. Let’s take a look.

Here’s the daytime video surveillance recording. First you’ll see me in a minute, start to walk up the sidewalk right there on the right hand side. And my daughters are out riding their bikes, which I always love. And for frame of reference, my driveway is about 35ft long. So I’m right there, I’m about 35ft away from the camera and I’m going to stop at about 10ft in front of where the camera is installed. Just give a quick wave so you can see a close up view. That car that just pulled up across the street, that’s like 55-60ft away. And you can see that is still crystal clear at that distance.

So you can see that guy getting out of his car. You can see him quite well. And next I’m going to switch to the nighttime infrared video surveillance footage. And again I’m going to walk up from the right hand side and approach the camera. Look at the ultra wide angle of view. I mean this camera is covering my entire front yard really, not just the driveway. And again I’m going to stop about 10ft in front of the camera so you could see a closer up angle when the camera is using its IR night vision. I’ll back up a bit here. And my front yard is 65ft wide. So from that, that left hand side of the camera over to that mailbox, that’s about 65ft wide for frame of reference.

Guys, I hope this video has been helpful. I want to tell you a little bit more about this dome IP camera before we wrap up. So first off, the model is the Viewtron IP-A8DZ and it’s a 4K resolution IP camera with built in power over ethernet. I have that one hardwired using Cat 6 cable. It runs back to the Viewtron NVR that I have up in my loft. And the power over Ethernet provides power to the camera and the connectivity so the NVR can record. Now that’s a motorized varifocal lens and the range is 2.8 to 12 millimeters. So unlike the old CCTV cameras where you have to dial in the angle of view and the focus with two rings, that one you could just mechanically zoom in and out using the mobile app or using the controls on the DVR and it automatically focuses.

In addition, I didn’t demonstrate in this video, but I’ll make another one probably tonight. That’s a Viewtron AI camera. It has built in AI software that that can detect human objects, vehicles or your car objects, and it also does face detection and facial recognition. So what I’m going to do is I’m going to set up an intrusion zone up here in my driveway so that I know anytime a person or a car enters my driveway, especially late at night, like I’ll probably enable that intrusion detection late night, like after 9 or 10pm So I know anytime someone came into the driveway when really no one should have been. In addition, that has a built in audio surveillance mic. So if you want to record audio surveillance in addition to the video that’s built in and that runs over the same Cat 5e or Cat 6 network cable as the video and the POE, you don’t have to do anything addition to that. As you can see, I have mine mounted to my house here using one of our Viewtron 5 1/2 inch junction boxes. I had that already mounted up there because I switch out cameras here all the time.

It’s real convenient. That’s the same junction box used by the Viewtron license plate recognition camera that I was testing here for about a year. So I always recommend using one of those junction boxes for outdoor installations. It provides a nice weatherproof housing for the Cat5 connection. And there’s some other cables that dangle off of that camera. Guys, if you have any questions about this Dome IP camera or anything related to security camera systems, you can email me directly anytime at mike@viewtron.com. If you want to learn more about this Viewtron 4K IP camera, as well as any of our other Viewtron AI security cameras, I have a whole bunch of demo videos on our website. You can learn more about all of them at www.viewtron.com/AI. Thank you for watching.
