Home Security Camera System Records Bear in Keystone Colorado
Check out this video surveillance footage of a bear in Keystone, Colorado recorded with my Viewtron home security camera system. I recently completed the camera system installation at my house in Keystone, which is in Summit County, Colorado near Breckenridge. The system consists of 9 exterior cameras, which are all Viewtron 4K IP cameras. Two days into the installation (before the back yard cameras were even done) the cameras monitoring the front and side yard recorded this bear walking up our driveway and onto the yard on the side of the house.
My security system captured video of this bear on five of the cameras. The above video shows the recorded video surveillance footage from these three IP cameras that got the best angle of view.
Viewtron IP Camera NVR with PoE
All of my exterior IP cameras are hard wired to this 16ch Viewtron NVR. I also use this wireless IP camera in the interior of our house when we are not there. The NVR has built-in PoE ports on the back which makes installation very easy. You simply run CAT5E or CAT6 network cable from each camera to a PoE port on the back of the NVR and the camera is supplied power by the recorder, and just connects.
Viewtron 180 Degree Camera, Model IP-180-4D
This is the location of the Viewtron IP-180-4D that recorded the bear walking up my driveway and front yard. This 180 degree camera does an amazing job at capturing the entire area in the front of it. This video was recorded before my camera installation was even complete and I did not realize that I only had the NVR recording at 6mp resolution and 20 frames per second. This 180 camera is actually capable of recording 4K / 8 megapixel resolution at 30 frames per second.
Here is a snapshot that I captured from the recorded video. You can click on the image to download the 6mp resolution image. You can also download the original recorded video export from the Viewtron NVR here. Again, this is only 6mp resolution (3632 x 1632). The Viewtron IP-180-4D is capable of 4K video resolution (4640 x 1760).
A few days after this, the two 180 security cameras in my back yard recorded a moose. I had all of my cameras set to 4K video recording at 30FPS. You can see the full 4K security camera resolution exported from the NVR here.
Viewtron Dome 4K Security Camera, Model IP-AX8D
Here is the dome security camera under the eave of our roof that recorded the bear as he made his way from the front to side yard. The Viewtron IP-AX8D is a 4K dome security camera with built in alarm functions. This IP camera has alarm lights and a speaker that can optionally be used as a deterrent to intruders. You can setup detection zones so that when a person of vehicle is detected, the alarm light can be turned on and you can also broadcast an audio alarm or warning message. You can watch video demos of Viewtron security cameras with alarm functions here.
Here is a snapshot image that I grabbed from the recorded video. You can click on the image to see the full 4K resolution photo. You can download the video surveillance footage export from the NVR here. Please note that the NVR was recording video from this IP camera at 20 frames per second. My system is now configured to record at 4K resolution at 30 frames per second.
Viewtron Bullet 4K IP Camera, Model IP-A8BL
Here is the location of the Viewtron IP-A8BL that is installed on that same side of the house, but facing the opposite direction. Viewtron bullet-style and dome-style cameras mount neatly on the underside of roof eaves using the optional junction box. The bullet cameras are extremely easy to point in the direction that you want them to monitor. This 4K bullet IP camera has built-in AI software for human detection, vehicle detection, and facial recognition / face detection.
Here is a snapshot image that I captured from the recorded video. You can click on the image to see the 4K resolution snapshot. I also exported the raw video footage from the DVR from this camera. You can download the exported 4K resolution video here.

Hey guys, Mike from CCTV Camera Pros here. The other day we got some awesome video surveillance footage of a bear that came up our driveway and then walked through our side yard. And it was a few days after I installed our new Viewtron IP camera system at our house up here in the mountains in Colorado. I actually caught footage of this bear on five of our cameras that, that, that showed me how great the coverage we have up here is with the new system I installed. But I want to show you footage from three of those cameras. The first one being this Viewtron 180 degree security camera. It captured footage of the bear walking right up our driveway. It was absolutely perfect.
And then when the bear walked over here to side yard, one of our Viewtron IP AX8D cameras, that’s one of our alarm security cameras, caught him coming around the corner. And then when he walked through the neighbor’s yard over here and headed towards the gulch, that, that Viewtron IP A8BL captured him. These are all 4K IP cameras and they’re all hardwired to our Viewtron 16 channel NVR that we have in the house. Take a look at this awesome video footage of this bear.
Here’s the multi camera live view on the Viewtron security camera system. And what I’m going to do to enter the playback mode is I’m going to select this button in the lower left and then select playback. This opens up the recorded video playback screen. And here you can see all eight cameras that I have connected. And I’m going to jump right to the date and the time I that I know that this, this bear recording took place. So we’ll, we’ll jump to that time and date. You can use this timeline over here to jump right to a point in time. And then I’m going to enable full screen mode to get rid of that timeline scrubber on the right.
And there you can see the bear coming over from my neighbor’s yard over there on the right. And he just comes right across my driveway and really is heading right towards the Viewtron One 180 camera right now. What, what an amazing view. And then in a second I’m going to pause the video so I can switch to the multi camera screen on the video playback. Because I’m going to switch to one of the side yard cameras now. So I’ll double click on this camera and you’ll see him come right around the corner. We get a great shot of him and then I’m gonna pause the video again and switch to the other side camera, so you can see him walking away and heading off to the Keystone Gulch. And I’ll, I’ll rewind it a bit so we can get a little more footage of him from this angle.
And on the, on the Viewtron video player, on the DVRs and NVRs, you can go in forward and reverse and, and you can go in regular speed, or you could slow things down or you could speed things up, which comes in handy when you’re sifting through video footage. But there he goes. I mean, he’s getting pretty far from the camera right now, and you can see him great. I mean, he’s probably 60-80ft away. He’s well into the neighbor’s yard and he’s just. There’s a gulch over there which is like a small river, and I guess he’s heading over there.
Guys, I hope you enjoyed that video footage of that bear coming across our property. Although I installed these cameras up here for, for security, the wildlife up here is, is amazing. And I’m going to be working on testing out this new piece of equipment that can actually detect bear and moose and big cats and, and all kinds of wildlife. Our Viewtron IP cameras are primarily for security, but I hooked up with this other company that specializes in animal detection and their AI software is compatible with our Viewtron cameras. So I’m going to be testing that up here. So be on the lookout for some of those videos. In the meantime, if you want to learn more about these cameras that I’m using at my house up here in the mountains, you can email me directly anytime. I could be reached at mike@viewtron.com. I’m going to post a whole bunch of still images.
I’m going to post the original video export files from that bear footage on our blog. If you want to take a look at the blog post, please visit www.viewtron.com/bear. Thank you for watching.
