  • Why does my Viewtron IP to HDMI decoder show No Settings when I try to display more than one security camera?

    We see this with the Viewtron IP-HDMI-D4K (and the hard-wired IP-HDMI-D4) when someone loads several. ultra high-resolution 4K RTSP streams at once. One camera on the TV looks fine. Raise Play number of channels to 2, 3, or 4 with the same high-res main streams, and the HDMI monitor jumps to No Settings even though each RTSP URL works alone.

    That is usually not a bad URL. The decoder is overloaded.

    One 4K stream is fine — four are not

    On the 4K wireless model, one 4K (or other high-res main) RTSP stream for a single full-screen camera is normal and supported.

    If you want four cameras on one TV (or even two or three), do not feed four full 4K / 4MP primary streams into the quadrants. Use a lower-resolution stream for each multi-view feed — typically 1080p or 720p, or each camera’s sub stream.

    • 1 camera, full screen: high-res / 4K main stream is OK.
    • 2–4 cameras on one TV: drop each stream to 1080p or 720p (or sub stream) before you apply the multi-channel layout.
    • There is no benefit to decoding four 4K streams into four small panes. The panels are small; the decoder still has to decompress every stream.

    The same overload shows up with Viewtron cameras, Viewtron NVR/DVR RTSP URLs, and third-party IP cameras (for example 4MP Axis streams) when too many main streams hit the decoder together.

    What to change

    Keep the working single-channel setup as a sanity check. Then for multi-camera HDMI:

    • Switch each multi-view feed to the camera’s sub stream, or lower those stream profiles to 1080p / 720p.
    • On a Viewtron NVR/DVR RTSP URL, prefer streamType=sub when more than one channel is on the TV: rtsp://[NVR-IP]:554/chID=1&streamType=sub.
    • Leave streamType=main (or a 4K main URL) for a single full-screen spot monitor only.

    After the streams are lighter, set Play number of channels again and Apply. The multi-camera layout should come up instead of No Settings.
