How-to Display Video from Multiple Security Cameras on One TV
Here are three solutions for how to display live video from multiple security cameras on one TV via HDMI. The first solution uses a CCTV video multiplexer with BNC security cameras. The second solution uses a IP security camera to TV decoder with network IP cameras. Third, we also have this wireless IP camera to HDMI converter that supports displaying up to 4 IP cameras on TV over WIFI. Please note that this blog post was updated on May 27, 2026 to add the Viewtron IP decoder and wireless converter as two great new security camera to TV live display solutions.
CCTV Video Multiplexer
A CCTV multiplexer can be used as a stand alone live video display system or it can be used in conjunction with a video surveillance DVR if recording is also required.
This is how it works.
- The security cameras are hard wired to the video multiplexer using RG59 Siamese coax cable. These multiplexers support analog CCTV cameras and HD-over Coax security cameras (AHD, HD-TVI, HDCVI formats supported). The RG59 Siamese cable runs both the power and video from the camera back to the location of the multiplexer.
- The video multiplexer has both an HDMI and VGA video output that connects to the video input of the TV / monitor.
- The multiplexer supports various screen layouts that can be selected using the wireless remote control or the buttons on the front of the unit itself.
IP Camera to TV Decoder (without DVR)
The Viewtron IP security camera to TV decoder supports displaying live video from up to 4 IP cameras on a TV via the HDMI output. The Viewtron IP-HDMI-D4 can be used in a number of ways with IP cameras and / or BNC / CCTV cameras. In the above diagram two of these 180 degree IP cameras are connected to the IP decoder over a local area network. A custom layout is configured on the VIewtron decoder to display the 2 cameras one on top of the other, with the width of the camera stretched to the full width of the TV. This looks great in this case because we are using 180 security cameras.
Security Camera to TV (IP Decoder with DVR)
If you want to use the IP camera to TV decoder with a DVR / NVR and / or you want to display more than 4 security cameras on a TV, you can pair the Viewtron decoder with this Viewtron HDMI to IP encoder. When you use the HDMI over IP encoder / decoder together, the entire HDMI output of the DVR / NVR is sent via RTSP over the local network. This allows you to display more that 4 security cameras on your TV, and it also lets you use IP cameras and BNC cameras when you use a Viewtron hybrid CCTV DVR.
IP Security Camera to TV Converter Overview

There are many ways to use the Viewtron IP camera to TV decoder with and without the HDMI to IP encoder. Please watch this above video to learn more. You can also visit this blog post about this powerful security camera to TV solution.
Wireless IP Camera to HDMI Converter
CCTV Camera Pros also supplies this wireless IP camera to HDMI converter. It supports all of the same great features as the hard wired IP-HDMI-D4 model, and it also has a built-in wireless antenna so that you can connect this model via hard wired Ethernet or WIFI. In addition the HDMI output of this WIFI model supports 4K resolution in addition to 1080p. You can connect the RTSP video streams of up to 4 IP cameras to it over network. You can also pair the wireless IP HDMI converter with the HDMI to IP encoder to send an entire HDMI signal over network to your TV.
HDMI over CAT6 to Extend Cable Distance
Many times the TV that is used to display the security camera feeds is not located very close to the multiplexer. You can use the VIewtron IP encoder / decoder kit for a direct HDMI over CAT6 system instead of sending the HDMI signal over a local area network router or switch.
This is how it works.
- The coax / BNC surveillance cameras are still hard wired to the multiplexer using RG59 Siamese cable.
- The HDMI output of the multiplexer connects to the input of the HDMI over CAT-6 transmitter (Viewtron IP-HDMI-E1).
- CAT-6 cable is run from the output of the HDMI transmitter to the input of the HDMI receiver (Viewtron IP-HDMI-D4).
- The HDMI output of the receiver is connected to the TV / monitor with standard HDMI cable.
CCTV Camera Pros sells the encoder / decoder together in this HDMI over Ethernet kit.
Multi-Camera TV Display Video Demo
Watch this video to see a demonstration of a 16 channel multiplexer being used to display live video from 16 HD security cameras on a TV. If you are watching the video from a PC, be sure to click the gear icon on the YouTube video player and select 1080p video resolution to watch in high definition.
Using a Multiplexer and DVR Together
If you need to setup a multi-camera display monitor and you also want to record video from your security cameras, you can use a security camera video splitter to share the video signal between a multiplexer and recording DVR. Some DVRs have a spot monitor / dual monitor display function, which eliminates the need for a multiplexer in this case. However, many DVRs do not have spot monitor functionality or if you have an application which requires multiple display monitor that each need to be independently controlled, a video splitter is a great solution to implement multiple multiplexers and/ or a DVR.
This is how it works.
- RG59 coax cable is used to wire the security cameras to the BNC video inputs on this 4 to 8 channel CCTV video splitter. You can find other size video splitters here.
- RG59 coax cable is used to wire the 8 video outputs to the multiplexer and DVR.
- The multiplexer and DVR can be connected to a TV monitor and be independently controlled.
Please note that we highly recommend Viewtron DVRs instead of iDVR-PROs now.
